Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@13w/memory

v0.1.1

Published

local-rag: obtains the native binaries from the project's own GitHub releases and puts them on your PATH — memory, hybrid code search and observation capture for Claude Code.

Readme

@13w/memory

npm package for local-rag — a local, co-located MCP service for Claude Code (persistent memory, hybrid semantic code search, spool-only observation capture).

npm install --global @13w/memory

Its job is to obtain and expose the native binaries, not to contain them. Installing the package fetches the release assets for your platform from the project's own GitHub releases, verifies each against the checksum published in the same release, and puts local-rag, local-rag-proxy, local-rag-hook and local-rag-tui side by side in one directory. They stay side by side deliberately: the proxy finds its daemon by looking next to itself.

The commands then resolve an executable, in this order:

  1. LOCAL_RAG_BIN_DIR, if you set it — a directory of prebuilt binaries that wins over everything and downloads nothing. This is the supported route for an air-gapped or mirrored install.
  2. A source checkout, when the package is running from inside one (pnpm link --global from a clone). Then target/release is used, and nothing is downloaded — the local build is the point.
  3. The binaries this package installed.

If none of those holds a complete set, the commands print what is missing and the one command that fixes it, rather than a stack trace.

Verification is against the checksum sidecar published beside each asset. That defends against corruption in transit and tampering on the wire; it does not defend against a compromised release, because whoever can publish an asset can publish its digest.

See the distribution specification and ADR-0013 in the repository for the full specification and the reasoning behind it.
