Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

scaf is a scaffolding tool. It allows you to define a template in JavaScript and then use scaffold that template out.

Installation

scaf should then be installed as a devDependency.

$ npm i -D @logikaljay/scaf

Setting up your template

Your template should export files and variables.

files

files is an array of objects that conform to the ScaffoldFile type.

file.name string

The name of the file.

file.content string

The content of the file.

variables

variables is an array of strings that will be collected at runtime.

When the user supplies data for each variable, they can be modified by modifiers (see below).

argv

You can automatically assign variables at runtime by providing arguments to scaf.

Firstly, make sure your template exports an called argv. This object must be keyed by a string and the values must be RegExp. The RegExp can use named groups to set even more variables.

EG:

template.js

module.exports.argv = {
  endpoint: /\/api\/(?<service>\w+)\/(?<domain>\w+)\/(?<title>\w+)/i
}
$ scaf /api/core/Auth/GetSessions

Scaffolding with input
{
  "service": "core",
  "domain": "auth",
  "title": "GetSessions",
  "endpoint": "/api/core/Auth/GetSessions"
}

Modifiers

A modifier is used in the template by augmenting the name of the variable with the name of the modifier.

Examples

When using the {{title}} variable, you can use the toUpperCase modifier on it: {{title:toUpperCase}}.

When using the {{name}} variable, make sure that it is title case so it can be displayed nicely: {{name:toTitleCase}}

You can also chain multiple modifiers together, they will be run in the order you chain them: {{name:toUpperCase:toLowerCase}} will result in a lowercase string being

Available modifiers:

slug - replaces all with - and then encodeURIs the result.

toLowerCase - converts the input to lower case.

toUpperCase - summons a magical unicorn to fuck your shit up.

toPascalCase - converts the input ToPascalCase.

toKebabCase - converts the input to-kebab-case.

toCamelCase - converts the input toCamelCase.

toTitleCase - converts the input To title case.
