Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Cursor Agent CLI provider plugin for @5x-ai/5x-cli

@5x-ai/provider-cursor-agent

Cursor Agent CLI provider plugin for @5x-ai/5x-cli. Runs 5x author/reviewer invocations through the agent binary (cursor-agent) in headless print mode with streamed JSON output.

Requirements

  • Bun >= 1.1.0 (same runtime as the CLI)
  • The Cursor agent CLI installed and authenticated (or credentials supplied via config, see below)
  • @5x-ai/5x-cli >= 1.3.0 (peer dependency)

Install

npm install @5x-ai/provider-cursor-agent
# or
bun add @5x-ai/provider-cursor-agent

Install it in the project where you run 5x so the CLI can resolve it.

Configure

Set the provider on a role in 5x.toml. The short name cursor-agent resolves to this package automatically:

[author]
provider = "cursor-agent"
model = "..."          # passed to `agent --model`

[reviewer]
provider = "cursor-agent"
model = "..."

Provider options live in an optional [cursor-agent] table:

[cursor-agent]
# agentBinary = "cursor-agent"   # path or name of the `agent` executable
# force = true # default true: pass --force for headless file/command execution
# trust = true # default true: pass --trust in print mode
# sandbox = "enabled"            # "enabled" | "disabled" → --sandbox
# approveMcps = false            # pass --approve-mcps
# pluginDir = ["path/to/dir"]    # repeated --plugin-dir entries

Credentials can be forwarded to the subprocess via config instead of relying on ambient login state — they are passed as environment variables, never argv:

[cursor-agent]
# apiKey = "..."       # forwarded as CURSOR_API_KEY
# authToken = "..."    # forwarded as CURSOR_AUTH_TOKEN

Prefer putting credentials in 5x.toml.local (gitignored) rather than 5x.toml.

Behavior notes

  • Sessions are created with agent create-chat and resumed per invocation with --resume, so continued reviews keep their session context.
  • Prompts exceeding the CLI's argv-safe size limit fail fast with a structured error instead of a truncated invocation.
  • Structured output is extracted from the streamed assistant output, including output emitted in the final assistant flush.
