Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@accretion-ui/react

Native React Accordion primitives from the Accretion UI shared source layer.

Install

npm install @accretion-ui/react react react-dom

Use

Import the shared stylesheet once near the app root:

import '@accretion-ui/react/styles.css';

Use the compound API:

import {
  Accordion,
  AccordionHeader,
  AccordionItem,
  AccordionPanel,
  AccordionTrigger,
  type AccordionValueOutput,
} from '@accretion-ui/react';

export function Example() {
  const handleValueChange = (value: AccordionValueOutput) => {
    console.log(value);
  };

  return (
    <Accordion
      defaultValue="delivery"
      id="faq-accordion"
      onValueChange={handleValueChange}
    >
      <AccordionItem value="delivery">
        <AccordionHeader>
          <AccordionTrigger showIndicator={false}>
            <span>Delivery timeline</span>
            <span aria-hidden="true">Custom</span>
          </AccordionTrigger>
        </AccordionHeader>
        <AccordionPanel>
          Server-rendered React markup is present before hydration and remains stable after interaction.
        </AccordionPanel>
      </AccordionItem>
    </Accordion>
  );
}

Closed panel content is not mounted by default. Set keepMounted on AccordionPanel when a hidden panel must stay in the DOM. Shared types such as AccordionValueInput, AccordionValueOutput, AccordionOrientation, and AccordionSize are exported from the package entry point. Set showIndicator={false} on AccordionTrigger when you want to replace the default chevron with fully custom trigger content.

Styling Requirements

The package expects @accretion-ui/react/styles.css to be loaded before rendering the Accordion. The stylesheet exposes CSS variables such as:

  • --ac-accordion-root-border-color
  • --ac-accordion-root-border-color-open
  • --ac-accordion-trigger-background-open
  • --ac-accordion-trigger-min-height
  • --ac-accordion-panel-padding-inline
  • --ac-accordion-panel-padding-block-start
  • --ac-accordion-focus-ring-color
  • --ac-accordion-focus-ring-offset

SSR Expectations

The package is designed for client-first usage with SSR validation included in this repo through the Next.js smoke app.

  • Deterministic item ids render on the server when you provide a stable Accordion id.
  • Closed panel containers stay in the DOM for stable aria-controls relationships, while panel content is unmounted by default unless keepMounted or hiddenUntilFound is enabled.
  • hiddenUntilFound is corrected after hydration because React DOM serializes the initial hidden attribute as a boolean during SSR.

Storybook

Run the local React Storybook from the repo root:

npm run storybook:react

Published Chromatic Storybook:

When Chromatic is republished, update this Storybook link and the root README link in the repo.

Testing And Development Notes

  • Unit and integration coverage lives in the repo root under testing/.
  • SSR smoke validation uses smoke-apps/react-next.
  • Browser smoke checks run with npm run smoke:react.
