Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.1.4

Published

Pi notifier package for QMK LED status notifications.

Readme

Pi QMK LED Notifier

Pi package that flashes a configured QMK RAW HID keyboard notification profile when Pi finishes a reply.

Behavior

The notifier classifies reply completion into broad categories:

  • normal reply
  • likely question / input-needed reply
  • reply with tool error
  • reply with assistant/session error

It then runs the bundled scripts/qmk-led-notify.py helper using the configured color/duration profile.

Files

  • extensions/qmk-led-notifier.ts
  • qmk-notifier.settings.json
  • qmk-notifier.settings.md
  • scripts/qmk-led-notify.py

Configuration

Preferred environment variables:

  • PI_QMK_NOTIFY_ENABLED
  • PI_QMK_NOTIFY_DRY_RUN
  • PI_QMK_NOTIFY_TIMEOUT_MS
  • PI_QMK_NOTIFY_PYTHON_EXE
  • PI_QMK_NOTIFY_PYTHON_ARGS (a JSON array, such as ["-I"] or [])

The following environment variable aliases are also accepted:

  • OC_QMK_NOTIFY_ENABLED
  • OC_QMK_NOTIFY_DRY_RUN
  • OC_QMK_NOTIFY_TIMEOUT_MS

See qmk-notifier.settings.md for settings-file details.

Install

Recommended as a global package.

From npm:

pi install @aefree/pi-qmk-led-notifier

From GitHub:

pi install git:https://github.com/aefreedman/pi-qmk-led-notifier.git

Local development install:

pi install <path-to-pi-qmk-led-notifier>

Requirements

  • A QMK keyboard/firmware setup that supports the bundled RAW HID notifier workflow
  • Python and the hidapi package

The notifier defaults to py -3 on Windows and python3 with no launcher arguments on macOS/Linux.

Windows setup

py -3 -m pip install --user hidapi
py -3 scripts/qmk-led-notify.py --list

macOS setup

Install Python 3 if python3 is not already available. A dedicated virtual environment avoids externally-managed Python restrictions:

python3 -m venv "$HOME/.local/share/pi-qmk-led-notifier/venv"
"$HOME/.local/share/pi-qmk-led-notifier/venv/bin/python" -m pip install hidapi
"$HOME/.local/share/pi-qmk-led-notifier/venv/bin/python" scripts/qmk-led-notify.py --list
export PI_QMK_NOTIFY_PYTHON_EXE="$HOME/.local/share/pi-qmk-led-notifier/venv/bin/python"

Persist the environment override in the shell configuration used to launch Pi. See qmk-notifier.settings.md for interpreter and launcher-argument details.
