Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server for aifree.dev: search verified free AI offers, API free tiers and credits from Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and any MCP client. A stdio proxy to the hosted endpoint https://aifree.dev/mcp.

@aifree/mcp

MCP server for aifree.dev: the verified directory of free AI offers (free tiers, API credits, student and startup programs). Ask your agent "what free TTS has no card?", "compare Groq and Gemini free tiers", "what changed this week?" and it cites the verified offer pages.

Tools: search_free_ai_offers, get_offer, list_free_llm_apis, find_models, recent_changes, compare_offers, check_eligibility, ask_aifree. check_eligibility { student?, startupStage?, country?, noCard?, building?, limit? } answers "I am a student in Vietnam with no card, what free AI can I claim?" with the /unlock quiz rules: verified offers first, the verified USD total (USD rows only) and a link to the same result as a page. get_offer includes the offer's models[] with each model's published free-tier rateLimit (rpm, rpd, tpm, optional tpd, rpmo; null = not published); find_models { query?, family?, toolCalling?, vision?, noCard?, limit? } answers "which free API serves gpt-oss-120b and at what RPM?" with one row per (offer, model), ranked like the free LLM API picker. The tool list comes from the hosted server, so this proxy picks up new tools without an update. Resources: aifree://llms.txt, aifree://hubs, aifree://hubs/{slug}, aifree://changes. Data is CC BY 4.0; only rows marked verified were tested by a person.

Hosted endpoint (no install)

https://aifree.dev/mcp speaks Streamable HTTP, stateless, no auth.

  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http aifree https://aifree.dev/mcp
  • Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json): { "mcpServers": { "aifree": { "url": "https://aifree.dev/mcp" } } }
  • Claude Desktop / claude.ai: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → URL https://aifree.dev/mcp

This package (stdio proxy)

Not published on npm yet: npx -y @aifree/mcp does not work today. Use the hosted endpoint above; for clients that only run local stdio servers, run the proxy from a checkout of the source (Node 18+, no dependencies):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "aifree": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/path/to/aifree.dev/packages/mcp/index.mjs"]
    }
  }
}

Once the package is published, the config becomes { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@aifree/mcp"] }.

Set AIFREE_MCP_URL to point at another endpoint (for example a preview deploy). Nothing is stored locally; every call is forwarded.

Source: packages/mcp in the aifree.dev repository (private for now).
