Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

💇‍♂️ @aksparadise/aks-backend

A state-of-the-art, premium, interactive CLI generator to instantly scaffold enterprise-grade, highly observable, and minimalist Express.js backends. Built on the Ponytail Minimalism (YAGNI) philosophy.

✨ Features

  • 🎯 Interactive Scaffolding: Spin up new backend microservices interactively in seconds. Select database providers, authentication tokens, language types, and docker setups in real-time.
  • 🔐 State-of-the-Art Auth Choice: Choose between standard JWT or next-generation PASETO (Platform-Agnostic Security Tokens) for iron-clad, secure-by-default tokenization.
  • 🚀 Dynamic Modules & Route Autoloading: No manual route import lists or index routing clutter. Any .route.js or .route.ts file inside src/modules/ is automatically detected and registered dynamically at start!
  • ✈ Built-in Resource Generator (NeatNode Style!): Run npm run generate within any scaffolded project to instantly spin up new routes, controllers, and schemas in seconds.
  • 📊 Auto-Instrumented Observability: Pre-integrated with @aksparadise/otel-observability out of the box. Delivers full automatic distributed tracing, log forwarding, and metric exports to your SigNoz or Grafana Collector.
  • 🛡️ Premium Guardrails: Ready-configured security headers (helmet), API rate-limiters, compression, and request loggers (pino, morgan).
  • 🤖 Environment Validation: Zod-validated environment configurations (.env) checked dynamically on startup.

🏃‍♂️ Instantly Create a Backend

To scaffold a premium backend, simply run the following command in your terminal:

npm create @aksparadise/aks-backend

Or run via npx directly:

npx @aksparadise/aks-backend

📂 Scaffolded Project Architecture

The CLI generates a clean, modular structure following top-tier production architecture guidelines:

├── bin/
│ └── aks-gen.js # Integrated component and CRUD generator
├── src/
│ ├── app.js # Express application layer & Dynamic Router
│ ├── server.js # Entrypoint with OpenTelemetry hook

🏗️ Generating Custom Modules

Once your project is scaffolded, navigate into the project and run:

npm run generate

The CLI will prompt you for a resource name (e.g., product) and automatically scaffold:

  1. src/modules/product/product.controller.js
  2. src/modules/product/product.route.js

On the next server start, the router autoloader will automatically register /api/product!
