Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Pi Teach Me

npm version

Pi Teach Me is a Pi extension that explains the latest assistant response or text you paste into a private overlay. It makes a separate, tool-free model request without adding a conversation turn or storing the explanation in the session history.

Install

pi install npm:@alereyleyva/pi-teach-me

For local development:

pi install .

Use

Teach Me is available while Pi is idle in the interactive TUI.

  • Press Alt+T to explain the latest assistant response.
  • Run /teach to choose the latest response or paste text to explain.
  • Enter an optional question, or leave it blank for a general explanation.
  • Press Esc to cancel a prompt or close an explanation.

When you paste text, Teach Me includes the latest user message and assistant response as surrounding context. It sends at most 6,000 characters of source context, disables tools and reasoning, and limits the explanation to 180 words. The answer uses the language of the surrounding conversation.

Choose a model

Run /teach-model to search the configured Pi models and choose one for Teach Me. Choose Globally to save it in Pi's agent directory, or This session only to keep it for the current session. Session overrides take precedence over the global preference and survive /reload and session resume.
