Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Alley Create Block

standard README badge

Alley's "external template" for @wordpress/create-block with some opinionated options preset. It provides custom .mustache files that replace the default files included in the @wordpress/create-block script for WordPress block scaffolding.

Alley's Create Block script is a tool to scaffold WordPress blocks for projects that use @wordpress/scripts for the build system. It generates PHP, JS, CSS code, and everything you need to start authoring a block in your WordPress project.

This script was written to pair with the Create WordPress Plugin but can easily adopt to other projects which use @wordpress/scripts.

This script requires the use of @wordpress/scripts in your project.

Use

Run the script to generate a block:

$ npx @alleyinteractive/create-block [options]

Without providing any options the tool will prompt the user through several options for creating a block.

CLI options

  -n, --namespace <string> The namespace for the block. (default: create-block)
  -b, --blocksDir <string> The directory where the blocks will be created
                               relative to the current working directory.
                               (default: blocks)
  -l, --blockLanguage <string> The language for the block. Accepts `typescript`
                               or `javascript`. (default: typescript)
  -h, --help Display the help usage guide.

Prompt options

The script will run and will start prompting for the input required to scaffold the block using @wordpress/create-block in interactive mode. See details about the available prompts in the @wordpress/create-block documentation.

Recommended Setup

  • Install @alleyinteractive/create-block as a devDependency on a project.
  • Add a create-block script command in the projects package.json file to call the script.
  • Add project specific flags to the command setting --blocksDir, --namespace, and --blockLanguage accordingly.

Example in package.json:

"scripts": {
    "create-block": "alley-create-block -n my-projects-namespace -l typescript",
}

The example above will scaffold blocks in the default "blocks" directory in a project using the namespace of "my-projects-namespace" and using typescript as the block language.

From Source

To work on this repository:

git clone [email protected]:alleyinteractive/alley-scripts.git
cd packages/create-block
npm ci

In order to test the config with another project, you will need to point to this package, e.g.:

{
  "devDependences": {
    "@alleyinteractive/create-block": "file:../path/to/alley-scripts/packages/create-block"
  }
}

Then simply run npm install and npm will symlink to this folder, and you can work on your changes.
