Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.2.0

Published

Auth.js (next-auth v5, @auth/core) provider for Sign in with Alternate Clouds.

Readme

@alternatefutures/ac-auth-js

Sign in with Alternate Clouds as an Auth.js provider. Works with next-auth v5 and every framework Auth.js supports (SvelteKit, SolidStart, Express, Qwik, ...). One line in providers, no other code.

Install

npm install @alternatefutures/ac-auth-js next-auth@beta

Use (Next.js App Router)

Register a client under Organization › Developer with the callback URL http://localhost:3000/api/auth/callback/alternate-clouds (and your production origin later). A public client needs no secret.

# .env.local
AUTH_SECRET=                      # npx auth secret
AUTH_ALTERNATE_CLOUDS_ID=ac_...   # the client id
# AUTH_ALTERNATE_CLOUDS_SECRET=   # confidential clients only
# AUTH_ALTERNATE_CLOUDS_ISSUER=   # default https://auth.alternatefutures.ai
// auth.ts
import NextAuth from 'next-auth';
import AlternateClouds from '@alternatefutures/ac-auth-js';

export const { handlers, auth, signIn, signOut } = NextAuth({
  providers: [AlternateClouds()],
});

// app/api/auth/[...nextauth]/route.ts
import { handlers } from '@/auth';
export const { GET, POST } = handlers;

Then await auth() anywhere on the server, signIn('alternate-clouds') to start, signOut() to end. The Auth.js default sign-in page shows a "Sign in with Alternate Clouds" button in the brand color.

Options

AlternateClouds({
  clientId, clientSecret, // or the AUTH_ALTERNATE_CLOUDS_* variables
  issuer: 'https://auth.staging.alternatefutures.ai',
  scope: 'openid profile email wallet org',
  // plus anything Auth.js accepts for an OIDC provider (profile, allowDangerousEmailAccountLinking, ...)
});

The Auth.js user.id is the user's wallet DID (did:pkh:eip155:1:0x...) when they have a verified wallet, otherwise the account id: the same rule as @alternatefutures/ac-auth. Keep the raw claims (org, wallets) with a jwt callback:

callbacks: {
  jwt({ token, profile }) {
    if (profile) token.org = profile.org;
    return token;
  },
}

What is configured for you

PKCE S256, state and nonce (the issuer requires all three), ID token verification through discovery, token_endpoint_auth_method none for public clients and client_secret_basic when a secret is given.
