Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@antiphony/capture-kit

Headless browser audio primitives for Antiphony clients: a microphone recorder, a playback hook, and the waveform helper that produces the peaks dev.antiphony.embed.audio carries.

npm install @antiphony/capture-kit

React ^18 || ^19 is a peer dependency, so the hooks run on your React.

import { useAudioRecorder, useAudioPlayer, computeWaveform } from '@antiphony/capture-kit';

Headless, and what that excludes

The hooks render nothing and style nothing. They return state and handlers; what you draw is yours.

The kit stops where product judgement starts. It does not upload — useAudioRecorder hands back a Blob and is finished, because the endpoint, the credential and the idempotency story are app-layer concerns. It does not know what a session is. And it carries no design language: AudioPlayer is a worked example so the reference app has something to render, not a component to theme.

That boundary is the same one the platform draws everywhere else. Antiphony owns the bytes and the services that derive facts about them; the app connecting to it owns what any of that means to a user. Recording audio is a fact about bytes — every client needs the identical state machine — so it lives here.

Exports

| | | |---|---| | useAudioRecorder(options?) | MediaRecorder as a state machine. { status, recording, elapsedMs, error, errorKind, analyser, start, stop, reset }. maxDurationMs auto-stops; analyser: true opts into a live AnalyserNode; the mic is released on unmount. | | useAudioPlayer({ url, durationMs?, crossOrigin? }) | Playback without an <audio> element in your tree. { status, currentTimeMs, durationMs, progress, error, play, pause, toggle, seek, seekToProgress }. | | computeWaveform(blob, buckets?) | 0–100 integer peaks, lexicon-shaped. Also at @antiphony/capture-kit/waveform, which imports no React. | | AudioPlayer | A minimal transport UI built from useAudioPlayer. A demonstration, not a design system. | | pickMimeType() | What MediaRecorder will actually give this browser, if you need to know before recording. | | normalizeAudioMimeType(type, filename, fallback?) | Any audio blob's type → a bare, uploadable MIME. Strips codec parameters; falls back to the filename when the blob claims none. Both also at @antiphony/capture-kit/mime, which imports no React. |
