Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@apiverve/node-red-apiverve

A Node-RED node for APIVerve: call any of 380+ APIs with one API key. Validate emails and phone numbers, look up IPs and domains, get weather, currency rates, DNS records, generate PDFs and QR codes, and more.

Install

From the Node-RED editor: Menu → Manage palette → Install, search for @apiverve/node-red-apiverve.

Or from your Node-RED user directory (usually ~/.node-red):

npm install @apiverve/node-red-apiverve

Requires Node-RED 3.0+ and Node.js 18+.

Set up

  1. Get a free API key at dashboard.apiverve.com.
  2. Drag an apiverve node (Network section) into a flow and open it.
  3. Add an Account with your key, then pick an API from the list. The editor shows that API's parameters.

The key is stored as a Node-RED credential and is not exported with your flows. Leave it empty to use the APIVERVE_API_KEY environment variable instead.

Use

Send parameters in msg.payload:

{ "email": "[email protected]" }

A plain value fills the API's only required parameter, so an inject node can send just an email address, an IP or a domain.

| Input | | |---|---| | msg.payload | Parameters as an object, or a plain value for the one required parameter | | msg.params | More parameters, applied last | | msg.api | An API id (e.g. iplookup) overriding the node's choice |

| Output | | |---|---| | msg.payload | The API's data (or the full response, if Output is set to full) | | msg.statusCode | HTTP status | | msg.apiverve | { api, remainingCredits } |

Parameters set in the node, then msg.payload, then msg.params are merged in that order.

Errors go to a Catch node with msg.statusCode set: 401 invalid key, 403 key not allowed for this call, 429 rate limit or no credits left.

Examples

Menu → Import → Examples → @apiverve/node-red-apiverve has four flows:

| Flow | What it does | |---|---| | validate-an-email | Inject an address, see the validation result in the debug panel | | screen-signup-emails | POST /signup endpoint: 201 for a valid, permanent address, 422 for an invalid or disposable one | | geolocate-webhook-callers | GET /whereami endpoint that returns the caller's location and network | | morning-weather-and-rates | Every day at 07:00, fetches a city's weather and the USD/EUR rate |

The two HTTP flows answer with a 502 and the reason if the API call fails, so requests never hang.
