Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v1.0.2

Published

MCP server that exposes the PDF Generation API (generate PDFs, list templates, check usage) to AI agents.

Readme

@aranswill/mcp-server

This package implements a Model Context Protocol (MCP) stdio server for the PDF Generation API. AI clients (Claude Desktop, Cursor, and others) can discover and invoke your API as structured tools instead of ad-hoc HTTP snippets.

Base URL: https://pdfapi-nu.vercel.app

API key: Create one at https://pdfapi-nu.vercel.app/dashboard/login.

Installation

From the mcp-server directory after cloning the repo:

npm install
npm run build

To install the built CLI globally from this folder:

npm install -g .

After publishing to npm (optional):

npm install -g @aranswill/mcp-server

Or run once with npx (when the package is published):

npx @aranswill/mcp-server

For local development without publishing, point your MCP config at node and the absolute path to mcp-server/dist/index.js (see below).

Claude Desktop configuration

Edit your Claude Desktop config file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %AppData%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Add an entry under mcpServers (use your absolute paths):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "pdfapi": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["C:/path/to/pdf-generation-api/mcp-server/dist/index.js"]
    }
  }
}

Restart Claude Desktop after saving.

Cursor configuration

In Cursor Settings → MCP, add a server, or edit your user MCP config (e.g. Cursor Settings → Open MCP config / project .cursor/mcp.json depending on your Cursor version).

Example using the local built server:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "pdfapi": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["C:/path/to/pdf-generation-api/mcp-server/dist/index.js"]
    }
  }
}

Use forward slashes or escaped backslashes in paths on Windows. Restart Cursor or reload the MCP panel after changes.

Available tools

| Tool | Description | |------|-------------| | generate_pdf | Generate a styled PDF from JSON (invoice, receipt, or report). Sends POST /api/v1/generate with X-API-Key. On success, returns a JSON payload including pdfBase64 and metadata. | | list_templates | List templates and descriptions (GET /api/v1/templates). No API key required. | | get_usage | Returns usage and plan limits (GET /api/v1/usage) using X-API-Key. Fields include monthly usage, remaining calls, plan tier, and RPM limit. |

Tool inputs (summary)

  • generate_pdf: { template, data, apiKey }
  • list_templates: {} (no required fields)
  • get_usage: { apiKey }

Scripts

  • npm run build — compile src/ to dist/
  • npm start — run node dist/index.js (stdio MCP server; normally the IDE starts this process for you)
