Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@archsmith/renderer

v0.10.0

Published

ArchSmith diagram renderer — validated IR in, SVG out. Pure library, no agent/LLM dependency.

Readme

@archsmith/renderer

The ArchSmith renderer — a validated diagram IR in, a complete SVG document out. Pure function, no I/O beyond reading its own bundled font, no LLM dependency.

See the root README for what ArchSmith is, what the IR looks like, and why the renderer is built this way.

Usage

import { render, validate } from "@archsmith/renderer";

const result = validate(ir); // { valid: boolean, errors: string[] }
if (result.valid) {
  const svg = render(ir); // complete SVG document, as a string
}

render() validates the IR itself before rendering (pass { skipValidate: true } to skip, e.g. if you've already validated). By default it embeds the bundled Arimo font into the output SVG so a diagram renders identically regardless of what's installed on the machine viewing it — subset to just the glyphs that diagram's own text needs, not the whole font, so the size added scales with the diagram rather than a fixed cost. Pass { embedFonts: false } to skip embedding entirely and get a smaller file still.

What's in here

  • validate() / validateStructure() / validateRegistryReferences() — schema (structural) and registry-reference (semantic) validation against @archsmith/schema.
  • render() — the full IR → SVG pipeline: measure, lay out five columns, assemble, optionally embed fonts.
  • measureText() / wrapText() — real glyph-advance-width text measurement (via fontkit against the bundled Arimo font) and word wrapping, used throughout layout instead of a flat character-count heuristic.
  • SVG primitives and box-drawing functions (rect, text, pill, actorBox, itemBox, clusterBox, gatewayBox, layerFrame, …) if you want to compose diagram fragments yourself rather than going through render().

Everything here is content-driven: box sizes, text wrapping, and row heights are computed from the actual IR content, never a fixed number the caller supplies and hopes is big enough.
