Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Accessible, themeable design system for React SPAs

Readme

Design System

Accessible, themeable React component library. WCAG 2.1 AA out of the box, zero runtime dependencies, CSS Custom Properties theming.

Install

npm install @aseguragonzalez/ui

Setup

Import the stylesheet once at your app entry point:

import '@aseguragonzalez/ui/index.css';

Wrap your app with ToastProvider if you use toast notifications:

import { ToastProvider } from '@aseguragonzalez/ui';

function App() {
  return (
    <ToastProvider>
      <YourApp />
    </ToastProvider>
  );
}

Usage

import { Button, TextField } from '@aseguragonzalez/ui';

function ContactForm() {
  return (
    <form>
      <TextField label="Name" placeholder="Your name" required />
      <TextField label="Email" type="email" />
      <Button variant="primary" type="submit">Send</Button>
    </form>
  );
}

What's included

Primitives — atomic wrappers around HTML5 elements: Button, TextInput, Checkbox, Select, Toggle, Heading, Text, Label, Alert, Badge, Spinner, ProgressBar, Tabs, Tooltip, Modal, Toast, and more.

Composites — primitives combined with Label, Hint, and ErrorMessage for complete, accessible form fields: TextField, TextAreaField, CheckboxField, SelectField, RadioGroup, ToggleField, PasswordField, DateField, and more.

Layout — Navbar, Sidebar, Breadcrumb.

Charts — BarChart, LineChart, DonutChart, ScatterPlot, RadarChart.

Data — DataTable with generic typing, sorting, and pagination.

Theming

Override semantic CSS Custom Properties to match your brand — no class overrides needed:

:root {
  --ds-color-action-primary:       #7c3aed;
  --ds-color-action-primary-hover: #6d28d9;
  --ds-font-family-base:           'Inter', sans-serif;
}

See docs/theming.md for the full token reference.

Documentation

| Guide | Description | |---|---| | Getting started | Installation, setup, first component | | Theming | Customize with CSS Custom Properties | | Accessibility | WCAG 2.1 AA best practices | | Responsive design | Breakpoints, layout, mobile patterns | | UX guidelines | Forms, feedback, modals, tooltips | | Contributing | Architecture, scripts, adding components |

Storybook

Every component has interactive controls, auto-generated docs, and a built-in accessibility audit:

npm run dev   # → http://localhost:6006

Key principles

  • Accessibility first — axe-core runs on every test in error mode; violations fail the suite
  • Zero runtime dependencies — only react and react-dom as peer dependencies
  • CSS Custom Properties only — theming never requires class overrides or build-time configuration
  • Strict TypeScript — all public APIs fully typed; CSS Modules have generated .d.ts files
