Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Vue shell bindings for atoll-islands islands — useIsland composable, <AtollIsland/> component, islandComponent/lazyIsland facades

Readme

@atolljs/vue-island

CI codecov Socket Badge

The Vue shell surface for @atolljs/islands — mount a worker-hosted tree as an ordinary element in a main-thread Vue app — plus the Vue worker renderer: a plain Vue component runs through Vue's own createRenderer with host ops bound to the instance's proxy document, so every mutation serializes to the op stream the shell replays as real DOM.

Atoll — package documentation

Install

npm install @atolljs/core @atolljs/islands @atolljs/vue-island vue

useIsland / <AtollIsland>

<script setup lang="ts">
import { useIsland, AtollIsland } from '@atolljs/vue-island';
import { ref } from 'vue';

const width = ref(640);
const { host, handle, status } = useIsland({
  worker: () => new Worker(new URL('./render.worker.ts', import.meta.url), { type: 'module' }),
  app: 'charts', // or an islandApp-stamped reference
  props: () => ({ width: width.value }),  // getter → tracked, pushes updateProps
  onEvent: (name, payload) => { ... },
});
</script>
<template><div :ref="(el) => (host = el)" class="island-box" /></template>

<AtollIsland> is the component form — same options as props plus @ready/@error emits.

Facades — islandComponent / lazyIsland

Mount a worker app the shell never imports — like React's islandComponent/lazyIsland. Every attribute that isn't a shell key (worker/client/workerOptions/mode/on*/slots/containerProps) forwards to the island as its props:

import { islandComponent, lazyIsland } from '@atolljs/vue-island';

// eager — the string is the registry key; P is the props contract
const ChartsIsland = islandComponent<ChartsProps>('charts');
// <ChartsIsland :worker="renderWorker" :width="520" />

// lazy — defineAsyncComponent under the hood, so the worker app's
// module only loads when the island mounts (a real split point)
const LazyIsland = lazyIsland(() => import('./worker/map.island'));
// contract modules can carry the worker too:
//   export { mapApp as app } from './map';
//   export const worker = () => new Worker(new URL('./map.worker.ts', import.meta.url));
// <LazyIsland /> — app + worker both from the module

The worker renderer

// counter.worker.ts — the whole worker entry
import { defineComponent, h, ref } from 'vue';
import { defineVuePolyWorker, emit } from '@atolljs/vue-island/worker';

const Counter = defineComponent({
  props: { label: { type: String, default: 'count' } },
  setup(props) {
    const count = ref(0);
    return () =>
      h('button', { onClick: () => { count.value++; emit('bumped', count.value); } },
        `${props.label}: ${count.value}`);
  },
});

export const worker = defineVuePolyWorker({ apps: { counter: Counter } });
// or a 1:1 instance worker: defineVueMonoWorker(Counter)

mount renders through a createRenderer whose host ops map onto the instance's proxy document; island.updateProps clones the mounted root vnode and re-renders, so Vue patches in place (same DOM elements survive). emit/runInInstance are re-exported for the island→shell channel.

Notes

  • Event modifiers cross the wire — @click.once/.passive/.capture become real addEventListener options.
  • Vue's scheduler is a microtask — state-driven re-renders commit just after the dispatch task returns and ride the doorbell/flush() path.
  • Conditional anchors (v-if/fragment boundaries) are real comment nodes.
  • Vue 3.5+; runtime-only build suffices (h()/defineComponent — SFCs compile via your bundler as usual).
  • Props must be structuredClone-able — mountIsland rejects uncloneable values naming the offending key.
