Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

FM synthesis — Chowning phase modulation, single-op or serial op stack, bell/epiano presets

Readme

@audio/synth-fm npm MIT

FM (phase modulation) — Chowning 1973, single-op or serial ops stack, per-op feedback + index decay; bell/epiano presets; FFT sidebands match Bessel J_k to 0.00%

npm install @audio/synth-fm
import fm, { bell, epiano } from '@audio/synth-fm'

Chowning 1973 FM synthesis ("The Synthesis of Complex Audio Spectra by Means of Frequency Modulation," JAES 21(7)), implemented as DX7-style phase modulation. Single operator by default, or a serial ops stack (innermost-first, each op's output phase-modulates the next, last modulates the carrier) — per-op ratio/index/feedback/indexDecay. bell and epiano are FM-classic presets built on the same kernel.

fm(440, { ratio: 1.4, index: 10, indexDecay: 2 }) // → Float32Array
bell(440) // Chowning's inharmonic bell/gong
epiano(440) // 2-op DX7-style e-piano

| Param | Default | | |---|---|---| | freq | — | Carrier Hz (positional) | | ratio | 2 | Modulator:carrier ratio (single-op form) | | index | 5 | Peak modulation index, radians | | indexDecay | 0 | Index decay time constant, seconds (0 = static) | | indexFloor | 0 | Index floor after decay | | feedback | 0 | Modulator self-feedback, radians | | ops | — | Serial modulator stack [{ratio, index, ...}] — overrides the single-op params | | duration | 1 | Seconds | | attack / release | 0.005 / 0.1 | Seconds | | amp | 0.8 | Peak amplitude | | fs | 44100 | Sample rate |

Use when: classic FM timbres (bells, e-piano, brass-ish tones); ops for multi-operator stacks.
