Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Zero-config multi-device local HTTPS proxy and certificate engine with sslip.io, Java PKCS12 / Python PEM generation, and mobile QR code pairing.

@authoritydmc/localssl

⚡️ Zero-config multi-device local HTTPS reverse proxy and certificate engine with automatic sslip.io DNS, Java PKCS12 / Python PEM outputs, and terminal QR code mobile pairing.

npm version License: MIT

💡 Why LocalSSL?

Testing local HTTPS across multiple devices (phones, tablets, other machines on your WiFi) usually requires configuring local DNS, editing /etc/hosts, or fighting self-signed certificate errors.

LocalSSL solves this completely:

  • 🌐 No DNS Setup: Uses sslip.io wildcard DNS (e.g. 192.168.1.50.sslip.io) which resolves on any mobile device on your WiFi out of the box.
  • ⚡️ Zero Code Changes: Instant HTTPS reverse proxy forwarding to your existing HTTP dev server (localhost:3000 $\rightarrow$ https://<LAN_IP>.sslip.io:3400).
  • 📱 Terminal QR Code Pairing: Scan the terminal QR code with your phone camera to install the Root CA or open your HTTPS dev server immediately.
  • ☕ Multi-Language Ready: Auto-generates server.pem (Python/Node/Go) and keystore.p12 (Java / Spring Boot).

📦 Installation

npm install -g @authoritydmc/localssl
# or run directly with npx
npx @authoritydmc/localssl proxy 3000

🚀 Quick Usage

1. Instant HTTPS Reverse Proxy (Zero Code Changes)

If your dev server is running on http://localhost:3000:

localssl proxy 3000

This starts an HTTPS reverse proxy with WebSockets (HMR) and displays a QR code to open your secure app on your phone.

2. 1-Click Mobile Root CA Installer

localssl serve

Renders a terminal QR code. Scan with your phone to download rootCA.pem and install it as a trusted certificate authority in 2 taps.

3. Generate Standalone Certificates

# Generate for current machine's LAN IP
localssl cert

# Or for a specific IP and directory
localssl cert 192.168.1.50 ./certs

Generated Files:

  • server.pem (Server certificate)
  • server-key.pem (Private key)
  • fullchain.pem (Server certificate + Root CA)
  • keystore.p12 (Java / Spring Boot PKCS12 keystore, password: changeit)
