Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Auto-Translate CLI

The Auto-Translate CLI is a command-line tool for translating text files using the Auto-Translate API. It allows users to specify the source language, target language, input file, and output file to automate the translation process directly from the command line.

Prerequisites

  • Node.js (v12+)
  • Auto-Translate API Key: Obtain an API key from auto-translate.com and set it as an environment variable.
  • API Key Environment Variable: Set the AUTO_TRANSLATE_API_KEY environment variable to your API key:
    export AUTO_TRANSLATE_API_KEY="your-api-key"

Usage

The CLI accepts multiple options for customizing the translation:

npx @auto-translate/cli -sf <sourceFile> -tf <targetFile> -sl <sourceLanguage> -tl <targetLanguage>

Options

| Option | Description | | ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------- | | -sf, --source-file | Path to the source JSON file for translation | | -tf, --target-file | Path to save the translated content | | -sl, --source-language | Language code of the source text (e.g., en for English) | | -tl, --target-language | Language code for the target language (e.g., es for Spanish) |

Example

To translate a file from English to Spanish, use:

npx @auto-translate/cli -sf en.json -tf es.json -sl en -tl es

Version

Check the version with:

@auto-translate/cli -v

Environment Variables

  • AUTO_TRANSLATE_API_KEY: Set this environment variable to your API key from auto-translate.com.

Error Handling

The CLI includes error handling for:

  1. Missing Required Options: If any required options are missing, the CLI will display help instructions and exit.
  2. API Errors: If there are issues with the API request (e.g., no subscription or invalid request), relevant messages will be displayed.
  3. Not Fully Translated: If the translation is not fully completed, wait a minute and run the command again to complete the translation.
