Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@avatarsd-llc/libtracer

The TypeScript core for libtracer — a native, pure-TypeScript implementation of the in-process protocol core (the L2/L3 wire codec today). It carries no transports; those live in separate per-transport packages (e.g. @avatarsd-llc/libtracer-ws). The codec is gated byte-for-byte against the shared conformance vectors and cross-matched with the C++ and Rust cores (ADR-0028).

Install

npm install @avatarsd-llc/libtracer

ESM only; Node ≥ 18 (or any modern bundler/browser).

Use

// Barrel entry — everything the core exports.
import { decode, encode, TYPE } from '@avatarsd-llc/libtracer';

// Or import just the wire layer for tree-shaking (subpath entry).
import { decode, encode } from '@avatarsd-llc/libtracer/wire';

const tlv = decode(bytes);
const reencoded = encode(tlv); // byte-for-byte round-trip

Subpath / layer entries

The package ships a tree-shakeable exports map. Today only the wire layer is implemented in TS, so the live entries are:

| Subpath | Layer | Status | | -------- | ----------- | ----------- | | . | barrel | implemented | | ./wire | L2/L3 codec | implemented |

./mem (L0), ./view (L1) and ./graph (L4) are reserved for when those layers are ported to TS — see ADR-0033. The subpath mechanism (not one-package-per-layer) is the chosen way to slice modules.

Development

This package is one member of the bindings/typescript npm workspace.

# from bindings/typescript (the workspace root)
npm install
npm run build # tsc -> dist/ (all workspaces)
npm test # conformance harness over the shared vectors

The conformance harness (conformance/harness.mjs) and perf bench (bench/perf.mjs) import the raw src/codec.mjs directly and need no build step — that keeps the polyglot conformance driver (tests/conformance/run-all.py) dependency-free.

Releasing

Publishing is driven by the repo's release tag: tools/sync-version.py stamps every artifact from the root VERSION file, so one vX.Y.Z tag releases the TypeScript packages, the Rust crate and the C++ core at the same version (.github/workflows/publish-npm.yml).
