Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

aVenture CLI

Research private companies, founders, investors, funding rounds, and news from your terminal. The package installs one command, aventure.

You need an aVenture account; free and paid plans both work. Create an account.

Get Started in One Step

Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, or any assistant that can run terminal commands:

Set up the aVenture CLI for me. Install it with
`npm install --global @aventurevc/aventure-cli` (it needs Node.js 24.18.0 or
later), then run `aventure auth login` so I can approve the sign-in in my browser (if no
browser opens, show me the sign-in link and code it prints). When I'm signed in, run `aventure entities lookup-exact get --url https://stripe.com` to confirm it
works. Use `aventure --help` to find other commands.

CLI, MCP, or Researchly?

| Where you work | Use | | --- | --- | | A terminal, shell scripts, or a coding agent with a shell | This CLI | | Claude, ChatGPT, or another desktop, web, or cloud AI app | The aVenture MCP server | | Researchly | Nothing to install: open Profile, then MCP servers and choose Connect aVenture |

Set Up by Hand

Requires Node.js 24.18.0 or later.

npm install --global @aventurevc/aventure-cli
aventure auth login

aventure auth login opens your browser to sign in and waits while you approve. Without a browser, such as over SSH or in a container, it prints a sign-in URL and a one-time code to approve on any device; --no-browser forces that mode.

For CI and other non-interactive environments, create a key in API key settings and provide it in the AUTH_TOKEN environment variable from your secret manager.

Find a Company

Finding a company or person by name (lookup) or by description (search) needs a paid plan (AI Plus or AI Pro). On the free plan, find a company by its website with aventure entities lookup-exact get --url https://stripe.com or by keyword with aventure entities search --text-search Stripe.

aventure lookup --name Stripe # by name
aventure lookup --url https://stripe.com # by website
aventure search --query "payments infrastructure for online businesses" # by description

Add --location or --context to tell companies with the same name apart:

aventure lookup --name Mercury --context "banking for startups" --location "San Francisco"

Find a Person

aventure lookup --kind PERSON --name "Patrick Collison" --context "Stripe co-founder"
aventure lookup --kind PERSON --name "Patrick Collison" --url https://www.linkedin.com/in/patrickcollison
aventure search --query "fintech founders who previously worked at PayPal"

Go Deeper on a Record

A lookup returns the record's id. Use it to read the full profile and what is attached to it:

aventure entities get --entity-id <id>
aventure entities fundraise-rounds list --entity-id <id>
aventure people get --person-id <id>

Plans and Usage

Profile views, web searches, and research requests count toward your plan's monthly allowance. When one runs out, the command stops with a message that says which limit you reached and how to upgrade.

aventure billing subscription get # your plan and usage
aventure billing plans list # monthly and annual prices
aventure billing plan-changes create --plan <plan> # upgrade a paid plan with the card on file
aventure billing checkout-sessions create --plan <plan> # subscribe from the free plan

You can also manage your plan in subscription settings.

More

  • aventure --help and aventure <command> --help list commands and options.
  • aventure command-catalog search funding rounds --format compact finds a command for a task.
  • --text (terminal default), --data (JSON, default when piped), and --json (full envelope) choose the output. Exit code 0 means success, 1 failure.
  • aventure auth doctor checks your setup and names the fix for each problem.
