Description
AWS SDK for JavaScript SimpleDBv2 Client for Node.js, Browser and React Native.
Amazon SimpleDB is a web service providing the core database functions of data indexing and querying in the cloud. By offloading the time and effort associated with building and operating a web-scale database, SimpleDB provides developers the freedom to focus on application development.
A traditional, clustered relational database requires a sizable upfront capital outlay, is complex to design, and often requires extensive and repetitive database administration. Amazon SimpleDB is dramatically simpler, requiring no schema, automatically indexing your data and providing a simple API for storage and access. This approach eliminates the administrative burden of data modeling, index maintenance, and performance tuning. Developers gain access to this functionality within Amazon's proven computing environment, are able to scale instantly, and pay only for what they use.
Installing
To install this package, use the CLI of your favorite package manager:
npm install @aws-sdk/client-simpledbv2yarn add @aws-sdk/client-simpledbv2pnpm add @aws-sdk/client-simpledbv2
Getting Started
Import
The AWS SDK is modulized by clients and commands.
To send a request, you only need to import the SimpleDBv2Client and
the commands you need, for example ListExportsCommand:
// ES5 example
const { SimpleDBv2Client, ListExportsCommand } = require("@aws-sdk/client-simpledbv2");// ES6+ example
import { SimpleDBv2Client, ListExportsCommand } from "@aws-sdk/client-simpledbv2";Usage
To send a request:
- Instantiate a client with configuration (e.g. credentials, region).
- See docs/CLIENTS for configuration details.
- See @aws-sdk/config for additional options.
- Instantiate a command with input parameters.
- Call the
sendoperation on the client, providing the command object as input.
const client = new SimpleDBv2Client({ region: "REGION" });
const params = { /** input parameters */ };
const command = new ListExportsCommand(params);Async/await
We recommend using the await operator to wait for the promise returned by send operation as follows:
// async/await.
try {
const data = await client.send(command);
// process data.
} catch (error) {
// error handling.
} finally {
// finally.
}Promises
You can also use Promise chaining.
client
.send(command)
.then((data) => {
// process data.
})
.catch((error) => {
// error handling.
})
.finally(() => {
// finally.
});Aggregated client
The aggregated client class is exported from the same package, but without the "Client" suffix.
SimpleDBv2 extends SimpleDBv2Client and additionally supports all operations, waiters, and paginators as methods.
This style may be familiar to you from the AWS SDK for JavaScript v2.
If you are bundling the AWS SDK, we recommend using only the bare-bones client (SimpleDBv2Client).
More details are in the blog post on
modular packages in AWS SDK for JavaScript.
import { SimpleDBv2 } from "@aws-sdk/client-simpledbv2";
const client = new SimpleDBv2({ region: "REGION" });
// async/await.
try {
const data = await client.listExports(params);
// process data.
} catch (error) {
// error handling.
}
// Promises.
client
.listExports(params)
.then((data) => {
// process data.
})
.catch((error) => {
// error handling.
});
// callbacks (not recommended).
client.listExports(params, (err, data) => {
// process err and data.
});Troubleshooting
When the service returns an exception, the error will include the exception information, as well as response metadata (e.g. request id).
try {
const data = await client.send(command);
// process data.
} catch (error) {
const { requestId, cfId, extendedRequestId } = error.$metadata;
console.log({ requestId, cfId, extendedRequestId });
/**
* The keys within exceptions are also parsed.
* You can access them by specifying exception names:
* if (error.name === 'SomeServiceException') {
* const value = error.specialKeyInException;
* }
*/
}See also docs/ERROR_HANDLING.
