Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@b4moss/es4 (Node.js / TypeScript)

TypeScript port of Es4 Go v0.8.0 contracts. Options keys stay snake_case (state_path, ES4_* env). Snapshot/Recovery remain internal.

Requirements

  • Node.js 20+
  • TypeScript strict (built with tsc)

Install

npm install @b4moss/es4

From a clone (development):

cd packages/node
npm ci

better-sqlite3 is an optionalDependency (native). It is required at runtime for SQLite State and local libSQL Recovery; Memory / Redis/Valkey / Firestore do not need it. If the optional install fails on your platform, install a compatible better-sqlite3 explicitly when using those backends.

Quick start

import { open, defaults } from "@b4moss/es4";

const db = await open({ ...defaults(), memory_only: true });
await db.set("hello", JSON.stringify({ n: 1 }));
console.log(await db.get("hello"));
await db.close();

Scripts

| Script | Purpose | |--------|---------| | npm test | Unit / contract (Vitest) | | npm run lint | tsc --noEmit | | npm run build | Emit dist/ | | npm run test:e2e:memory | E2E memory layer | | npm run test:e2e:file | E2E file SQLite + File Recovery | | npm run test:e2e:libsql | E2E libSQL Recovery | | npm run test:e2e:object | E2E Object Recovery (needs RustFS) | | npm run test:e2e:redis | E2E Redis State (ES4_E2E_REDIS_URL) | | npm run test:e2e:valkey | E2E Valkey State (ES4_E2E_VALKEY_URL) | | npm run test:e2e:firestore | E2E Firestore (FIRESTORE_EMULATOR_HOST) |

Compose services: docker compose -f docker/e2e/docker-compose.yml up -d … (shared with Go).

Open priority

  1. Injected State (openWith)
  2. memory_only → Memory
  3. state_backend=redis|valkey → Redis adapter
  4. state_backend=firestore → Firestore
  5. state_backend=memory → Memory
  6. state_path non-empty or state_backend=sqlite → SQLite
  7. else → Memory
