Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ContextKit CLI

Secure command-line client for ContextKit's immutable, content-addressed skill repository.

Install

npm install --global @basedchef/contextkit-cli
export CONTEXTKIT_API_KEY="ck_live_replace_me"

Use CONTEXTKIT_BASE_URL only when targeting a self-hosted ContextKit deployment.

Creator workflow

contextkit skill init ./my-skill --name my-skill --version 1.0.0
cd my-skill
npm test

Replace the scaffold with real source, tests, examples, and evidence. Compile the skill through ContextKit, then either put the returned exp_... ID in the skillId field of skill.json or pass it explicitly:

contextkit skill validate . --skill-id exp_REPLACE_ME
contextkit skill push . --skill-id exp_REPLACE_ME --publish-token TOKEN
contextkit skill publish . --publish-token TOKEN

validate does not store files. push stores an immutable SHA-256 version. publish lists only an eligible executable bundle after explicit approval.

Discovery and installation

contextkit skill search "x402 timeout"
contextkit skill inspect exp_REPLACE_ME
contextkit skill buy exp_REPLACE_ME
contextkit skill clone exp_REPLACE_ME ./installed-skill

buy returns a receipt and repository metadata without dumping source to the terminal. clone purchases the version, verifies every file and the repository digest, then materializes the complete repository.

Existing files are never overwritten unless --force is explicitly supplied.

Bundle safety

  • .git, node_modules, build output, .env, and environment-specific .env.* files are ignored.
  • .env.example is allowed because it must contain names and placeholders, never credentials.
  • Symlinks are rejected so files outside the repository cannot be uploaded accidentally.
  • Clone paths must be relative POSIX paths; absolute paths, .., backslashes, and path traversal are rejected.
  • SHA-256, decoded size, manifest membership, and the repository digest are verified before any file is written.
  • Clone refuses existing file collisions by default.

Run contextkit --help for the complete command list.
