Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@better-translate/tanstack-router

v1.2.1

Published

TanStack Router integration package for Better Translate.

Readme

TanStack Router

Use @better-translate/tanstack-router when your app uses TanStack Router or TanStack Start and you want locale-aware URLs.

In most real apps you will pair it with:

  • @better-translate/core for the translator
  • @better-translate/react for hooks inside React components

1. Install the packages

npm install @better-translate/core @better-translate/react @better-translate/tanstack-router

2. Create the shared translator

Create src/lib/i18n.ts:

import { configureTranslations } from "@better-translate/core";

const en = {
  home: {
    title: "Hello from TanStack Router",
  },
} as const;

const es = {
  home: {
    title: "Hola desde TanStack Router",
  },
} as const;

export const translator = await configureTranslations({
  availableLocales: ["en", "es"] as const,
  defaultLocale: "en",
  fallbackLocale: "en",
  messages: { en, es },
});

3. Add the locale routing config

Create src/lib/routing.ts:

import {
  defineRouting,
  SUPPORTED_TANSTACK_LOCALE_ROUTE_SYNTAXES,
} from "@better-translate/tanstack-router";

export const routing = defineRouting({
  defaultLocale: "en",
  locales: ["en", "es"] as const,
  routeTemplate: "/$lang",
});

console.log(SUPPORTED_TANSTACK_LOCALE_ROUTE_SYNTAXES);

4. Create localized navigation helpers

Create src/lib/navigation.tsx:

import {
  Link,
  useLocation,
  useNavigate,
  useRouter,
} from "@tanstack/react-router";

import { createNavigationFunctions } from "@better-translate/tanstack-router/navigation";

import { routing } from "./routing";

export const {
  Link: I18nLink,
  useLocale,
  useNavigate: useI18nNavigate,
  usePathname: useI18nPathname,
} = createNavigationFunctions({
  Link,
  routing,
  useLocation,
  useNavigate,
  useRouter,
});

Use routeTemplate: "/$lang" or routeTemplate: "/{$lang}" for required locale segments. Use "/{-$lang}" when the default locale should omit the segment.

Supported locale param names come from @better-translate/core and are exposed here as:

  • SUPPORTED_TANSTACK_REQUIRED_LOCALE_ROUTE_SYNTAXES
  • SUPPORTED_TANSTACK_BRACED_REQUIRED_LOCALE_ROUTE_SYNTAXES
  • SUPPORTED_TANSTACK_OPTIONAL_LOCALE_ROUTE_SYNTAXES
  • SUPPORTED_TANSTACK_LOCALE_ROUTE_SYNTAXES

5. Wrap the app with the React provider

Create src/app.tsx:

import { RouterProvider } from "@tanstack/react-router";

import { BetterTranslateProvider } from "@better-translate/react";

import { router } from "./router";
import { translator } from "./lib/i18n";

export function App() {
  return (
    <BetterTranslateProvider translator={translator}>
      <RouterProvider router={router} />
    </BetterTranslateProvider>
  );
}

6. Use locale-aware links and translations

Create src/components/header.tsx:

import { useTranslations } from "@better-translate/react";

import { translator } from "../lib/i18n";
import { I18nLink, useLocale } from "../lib/navigation";

export function Header() {
  const currentLocale = useLocale();
  const { t } = useTranslations<typeof translator>();

  return (
    <header>
      <h1>{t("home.title")}</h1>
      <I18nLink to="/" params={{ lang: currentLocale }}>
        Home
      </I18nLink>
    </header>
  );
}

TanStack Start

If you are using TanStack Start, keep the same routing and navigation setup. Then add the server helpers from @better-translate/tanstack-router/server the same way you would add request helpers in Next.js.

Generate locale files automatically

Instead of writing every translation by hand, use the CLI to extract strings and generate locale files: CLI guide
