Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Optional CJK font binaries for @betteroffice/fonts: Noto Sans SC/TC/JP/KR and Noto Serif SC coverage faces for Chinese, Japanese and Korean documents.

@betteroffice/fonts-cjk

Optional CJK font binaries for @betteroffice/fonts. Install it alongside the base package when your documents contain Chinese, Japanese or Korean text:

npm install @betteroffice/fonts @betteroffice/fonts-cjk

Then hand the base module to the engine once, before any editor mounts — configureDefaultFonts({ fonts }) from @betteroffice/docx/layout, as the @betteroffice/fonts README shows. @betteroffice/fonts picks these faces up through an optional dynamic import, so once the base package is configured the CJK script-fallback chain resolves as soon as this one is present.

Why a separate package

A separate package makes CJK binaries an explicit installation choice.

| Package | Faces | Size on disk | | ------------------------- | ----- | ------------ | | @betteroffice/fonts | 65 | 14.2 MB | | @betteroffice/fonts-cjk | 5 | 33 MB |

The overwhelming majority of documents need only the base package. Measured over 100 real-world English documents, Calibri appears in 91%, Times New Roman in 79%, Arial in 56% and Cambria in 52% — all covered by the base package's metric-compatible Latin set.

Contents

| Bundled family | Substitutes for (Word families) | Script bucket | License | Version | | -------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------- | ------- | ------- | | Noto Sans SC | Microsoft YaHei, SimHei, DengXian (微软雅黑, 黑体, 等线) | cjk-sc | OFL 1.1 | 2.004 | | Noto Serif SC | SimSun, NSimSun, FangSong, KaiTi (宋体, 仿宋, 楷体) | cjk-sc | OFL 1.1 | 2.003 | | Noto Sans TC | Microsoft JhengHei, PMingLiU, MingLiU, DFKai-SB (微軟正黑體, 新細明體, 細明體, 標楷體) | cjk-tc | OFL 1.1 | 2.004 | | Noto Sans JP | MS (P)Gothic, MS (P)Mincho, Meiryo, Yu Gothic, Yu Mincho (MS ゴシック, MS 明朝, メイリオ, 游ゴシック, 游明朝) | cjk-jp | OFL 1.1 | 2.004 | | Noto Sans KR | Malgun Gothic, Gulim, Dotum, Batang, Gungsuh (맑은 고딕, 굴림, 돋움, 바탕, 궁서) | cjk-kr | OFL 1.1 | 2.004 |

Notes:

  • These Noto faces provide Chinese, Japanese and Korean glyph coverage.
  • Each face ships Regular. Ming, Mincho and Batang families map to regional Noto Sans faces.
  • These are noto-cjk's static SubsetOTF Regulars, so browser and Rust measurement read identical advances.

API

You do not normally import this package. @betteroffice/fonts resolves it on its own; the single export exists so bundlers emit the assets.

import { CJK_FONT_ASSET_URLS } from '@betteroffice/fonts-cjk';

CJK_FONT_ASSET_URLS maps an asset filename to a () => URL resolver, keyed exactly as @betteroffice/fonts' face manifest names the files.

Licensing

The loader code is Apache-2.0 (see LICENSE). The font binaries are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1; LICENSES/OFL-NotoCJK.txt carries the full licence text preceded by the copyright notices it applies to — Copyright 2014-2021 Adobe for Noto Sans SC/TC/JP/KR, and Copyright 2017-2024 Adobe for Noto Serif SC, both with Reserved Font Name "Source". Static SubsetOTF Regulars vendored from notofonts/noto-cjk at commit f8d157532fbfaeda587e826d4cd5b21a49186f7c (Sans/SubsetOTF/{SC,TC,JP,KR}/, Serif/SubsetOTF/SC/).
