Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@blitzd/resizable-panels

Headless, animated, resizable panel layouts for React.

  • Headless — no stylesheet to import, no design opinions. You style the DOM.
  • No setup — a single <PanelGroup> works on its own; no provider to wire up.
  • Complete — docked & peer panels, nested groups, collapse (animated or to a rail), drag-to-collapse thresholds, persistence, RTL, SSR, and a full keyboard and screen-reader story.

Install

npm install @blitzd/resizable-panels

React 18.2+ and 19. ESM only. Modern Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.

Quick start

Three pieces: a PanelGroup sets the axis, Panels sit inside it, and a PanelResizeHandle goes between two panels as their direct sibling. The group fills its container, so give the container a size.

import { Panel, PanelGroup, PanelResizeHandle } from "@blitzd/resizable-panels";

export function Split() {
  return (
    <div style={{ height: 300 }}>
      <PanelGroup orientation="horizontal">
        <Panel>Left</Panel>
        <PanelResizeHandle />
        <Panel>Right</Panel>
      </PanelGroup>
    </div>
  );
}

Drag the seam — the two panels share the space. That is the whole model.

A collapsible sidebar

Give a panel a side and it becomes a docked panel: it has its own size and collapses (by default, animated). Everything else stays a peer that shares the remaining space.

<div style={{ height: 400 }}>
  <PanelGroup orientation="horizontal">
    <Panel side="start" defaultSize={240} minSize={160} collapsible>
      Sidebar
    </Panel>
    <PanelResizeHandle />
    <Panel>Editor</Panel>
  </PanelGroup>
</div>

Sizes accept pixels or a CSS-ish string — defaultSize="30%", minSize="16rem", maxSize="calc(100% - 320px)".

Control it from your app

Give a panel a panelId and its group a groupId, and read or drive it from anywhere — no prop drilling:

import { usePanelControls } from "@blitzd/resizable-panels";

function SidebarToggle() {
  const sidebar = usePanelControls({ groupId: "workspace", panelId: "sidebar" });
  return <button onClick={() => sidebar?.toggle()}>Toggle sidebar</button>;
}

Prefer to own the state yourself? Every collapsible panel takes a controlled collapsed prop, and every group takes a controlled value — both propose changes through callbacks you accept or decline.
