Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

opencode-system-override — Overwrite the OpenCode System Prompt

npm version license

A server-only OpenCode plugin that lets one agent throw away the entire assembled system prompt and replace it with its own. Put your prompt between the markers in the agent file — everything else (default prompt, environment info, AGENTS.md, MCP instructions, skills prompt) is removed for that agent only.

  • Marker absent (any other agent, compaction, title, summary) → system left completely untouched.
  • Markers present → whole system replaced with the text between them.
  • Empty between markers → system cleared entirely (pure LLM, no system prompt at all).

Tool access is NOT touched by this hook (no hook exists for the tools array). Use permission: {"*": deny} in the agent file to block tool use — see agents/Raw.md.

📦 npm · 🐞 Issues · 📝 Changelog

Install

// opencode.jsonc
{
  "plugin": ["@bojackduy/opencode-system-override"]
}

Then install the Raw agent (one file) into your OpenCode config:

npx -y @bojackduy/opencode-system-override@latest

This registers the plugin in opencode.jsonc (if not already present) and copies agents/Raw.md to ~/.config/opencode/agents/Raw.md (existing file is overwritten). Set OPENCODE_CONFIG_DIR to target a non-default config directory. Uninstall with:

npx -y @bojackduy/opencode-system-override@latest --uninstall

Then quit and restart opencode (config is loaded once at startup).

Local development instead:

// opencode.jsonc
{ "plugin": ["/path/to/opencode-system-override/src/server.ts"] }

Use

Edit ~/.config/opencode/agents/Raw.md and write your prompt between the markers:

---
description: Minimal agent with nothing
mode: primary
permission:
  "*": deny
---

RAW_SYSTEM_OVERRIDE_START_9F3A

You are a pirate. Speak like one.

RAW_SYSTEM_OVERRIDE_END_9F3A

Select the Raw agent and chat — the model sees only your text as its system prompt. Leave the space empty for a truly empty system (pure LLM).

Custom agents (any name works)

The hook never checks the agent's name — it only looks for the marker pair in the assembled system text. So you can give any agent its own override by putting the markers in its file:

---
description: Code reviewer with no default baggage
mode: primary
permission:
  "*": deny
---

RAW_SYSTEM_OVERRIDE_START_9F3A

You are a senior reviewer. Be terse. Flag only real bugs.

RAW_SYSTEM_OVERRIDE_END_9F3A

Each agent carries its own text between the markers; agents without markers are completely untouched. The shipped agents/Raw.md is just a blank starter — copy it to Pirate.md, Reviewer.md, whatever you like.

How it works

OpenCode assembles one system array per request. The experimental.chat.system.transform hook joins it, finds the marker pair, and mutates output.system in place:

| Situation | Result | |---|---| | No START marker (other agents, compaction, title, summary) | untouched | | START but no END | untouched + log line (safe no-op) | | Text between markers | system = that text | | Nothing/whitespace between markers | system = [] (pure LLM) |

A second hook, chat.headers, keeps OpenCode Zen free-tier models working. Zen only serves anonymous free models to requests carrying the opencode client User-Agent, and now also requires a stable per-conversation x-opencode-session header — without them you get must using opencode for opencode free endpoint / 429 FreeUsageLimitError. For opencode provider requests only, the plugin injects User-Agent: opencode/<version> (when absent or not already opencode/*) and x-opencode-session: <sessionID>, merging in place so other plugins' headers are preserved. Override the UA with OPENCODE_USER_AGENT=opencode/x.y.z if needed.

Releases are tag-gated: push v*.*.* and the publish workflow typechecks, tests, builds, publishes to npm with provenance, and cuts a GitHub release from the changelog.
