Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

AwesomeAPI provider for br-geo-kit, with area code and coordinates

Readme

@br-geo-kit/provider-awesomeapi

AwesomeAPI for br-geo-kit. The fullest single response of the free services.

pnpm add @br-geo-kit/cep @br-geo-kit/provider-awesomeapi
import { createCep } from '@br-geo-kit/cep'
import { awesomeapi } from '@br-geo-kit/provider-awesomeapi'

const cep = createCep({ providers: [awesomeapi()] })

What it returns

| | | | --- | --- | | Street, neighbourhood, city, state | yes | | Correios side-of-street note | no | | IBGE code | yes | | Area code | yes | | Coordinates | yes | | Reverse lookup | no |

It is the only free service that returns an area code and coordinates and an IBGE code in one call, which makes it a good chain leader when you want a complete record without the offline dataset.

It also splits the street into its type and its name. The kit uses the joined form and falls back to rebuilding it from the halves.

Its failure modes are the ordinary ones

AwesomeAPI is the only one of the four that answers a missing CEP with a real 404 and a JSON error body, rather than a 200 with a flag buried in it. That is worth something: the things that can go wrong are the things you already know how to handle.

It answers 400 for a CEP outside the allocated space, which the adapter also reads as an absence — the kit normalizes the format before calling, so the format is not what is in question.

Coordinates arrive as strings and are parsed rather than cast, because Number('') is 0 and a silent (0, 0) is worse than no location at all.

Options

awesomeapi({ baseUrl: 'https://cep.awesomeapi.com.br/json' })

Rate limits

AwesomeAPI publishes no documented rate limit on this endpoint and no SLA. Use a cache, and put a second provider behind it. See caching and providers.
