Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@buildtovalue/registry

Headless version governance for bpmn-react — the queryable layer over the core lifecycle. Zero runtime dependencies (depends only on @buildtovalue/core).

The core LifecycleEngine governs how a version moves through draft → test → candidate → active → deprecated → retired. This package records the resulting immutable versions and answers the audit questions the lifecycle alone can't:

  • "Which version was in effect on day X?" — temporal validity via activeAt(date).
  • "What changed between v1 and v2?"diffBetween(v1, v2) over stored snapshots.
  • "What's live on the pilot channel right now?" — publication channels/environments.
  • "Which exact version produced this delivery?" — execution pinning (bindRun).
import { VersionRegistry, bindRun } from '@buildtovalue/registry';

const registry = new VersionRegistry({ sink: myDatabaseSink }); // sink optional

// Record a promoted version (snapshot + content hash captured automatically)
await registry.register(diagram, { technicalNotes: 'Reworked the approval gate' });

// Roll out gradually — a version can be active on pilot while another is on general
await registry.publish(diagram.version.id, { channel: 'pilot', status: 'active' });

// Query
registry.activeAt('2026-06-01', { channel: 'pilot' }); // entry in effect then
registry.diffBetween('v1', 'v2');                       // structured diff
registry.lineageOf('v3');                               // ancestor chain, oldest → newest

// Pin an execution to the exact version that produced it
const run = bindRun(registry.get(diagram.version.id)!, { channel: 'pilot' });
// run = { runId, versionId, semanticVersion, snapshotHash, channel, boundAt } — frozen

Guarantees

  • Snapshots are content-hashed. register stores a deep copy plus its SHA-256; export/ import round-trip through external storage and import refuses a tampered snapshot.
  • Lanes have one live version. Publishing to a lane (channel + optional environment) closes the previous open publication, so activeAt is unambiguous.
  • Runs are born pinned. A RunBinding is a frozen value derived from the snapshot hash — promoting or superseding the version later never mutates a run already in flight.
