Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@buoy-gg/storage

v7.0.18

Published

Browse & edit AsyncStorage, MMKV & SecureStore inside your React Native app, with change history. Part of Buoy devtools.

@buoy-gg/storage

npm version npm downloads

Browse and edit every key-value pair your React Native app persists — AsyncStorage, MMKV, and SecureStore in one explorer with real-time updates.

Part of Buoy — devtools that live inside your React Native app. Install it and it auto-appears in the floating menu from @buoy-gg/core.

Storage Explorer demo

Install

npm install @buoy-gg/core @buoy-gg/storage

Quick start

AsyncStorage works out of the box. Render the floating menu once — the Storage Explorer is auto-discovered as soon as this package is installed:

import { FloatingDevTools } from "@buoy-gg/core";

export default function App() {
  return (
    <>
      {/* your app */}
      <FloatingDevTools />
    </>
  );
}

MMKV — register each instance once so the explorer can see it (required for MMKV v4; Metro can't auto-detect instances):

import { createMMKV } from "react-native-mmkv";
import { registerMMKVInstance } from "@buoy-gg/storage";

export const storage = createMMKV({ id: "mmkv.default" });
registerMMKVInstance("mmkv.default", storage);

SecureStore — the iOS Keychain / Android KeyStore has no key-listing API, so register the keys you want visible:

import * as SecureStore from "expo-secure-store";
import { registerSecureStoreKeys } from "@buoy-gg/storage";

registerSecureStoreKeys(SecureStore, [
  "auth.accessToken",
  { key: "session", keychainService: "com.myapp.auth" },
  // Biometric-protected keys are listed but never auto-read (no surprise Face ID prompts)
  { key: "pin", requireAuthentication: true },
]);

What you get

  • Three backends, one explorer — AsyncStorage, MMKV (multiple instances, including encrypted), and Expo SecureStore, with per-instance key counts and an instance switcher.
  • Edit in place — modify, delete, and add keys directly; bulk-select to delete or export many at once.
  • Live events — watch storage reads and writes stream in as your app runs.
  • Pin and hide — pin the keys you're watching to the top (persists across sessions); one tap hides noisy keys non-destructively.
  • Inline previews — short values show on the card (number · 42, string · "en"), booleans get color-coded true/false badges, and valid JSON is auto pretty-printed.
  • Biometric keys stay safe — SecureStore keys behind Face ID / fingerprint are listed but never auto-read.
  • Required-key validation — declare keys with expected types or values via createStorageTool({ requiredStorageKeys }) and see what's missing or wrong.

Desktop & AI

The same live session streams to Buoy Desktop (free, macOS/Windows/Linux) and to Claude Code or Cursor via the Buoy MCP server.

Free vs Pro

Every tool is free. Pro unlocks production builds, the MCP server, and unlimited capture. Every weekend, Pro features unlock free for everyone.
