Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@byggflow/sandbox

TypeScript SDK for sandboxd -- create and manage isolated sandboxes with filesystem, process execution, environment variable, and network access. Works on Node, Bun, and Deno.

Install

# npm
npm install @byggflow/sandbox

# JSR (Deno, Bun, or npm via npx)
npx jsr add @byggflow/sandbox

Quick start

import { createSandbox } from "@byggflow/sandbox";

// Connects to /var/run/sandboxd/sandboxd.sock by default
const sbx = await createSandbox();

await sbx.fs.write("/root/main.py", "print('hello')");
const result = await sbx.process.exec("python /root/main.py");
console.log(result.stdout); // "hello\n"

await sbx.close();

For remote deployments, pass an explicit endpoint:

const sbx = await createSandbox({
  endpoint: "https://sandbox.example.com",
  auth: "your-api-token",
});

Streaming output

const handle = sbx.process.streamExec("python /root/train.py");
for await (const event of handle.output) {
  process.stdout.write(event.data);
}
const code = await handle.exitCode;

Port tunneling

// Path-based proxy URL (no allocation, works immediately)
const url = sbx.net.url(3000);

// Dedicated host port (waits for port readiness)
const tunnel = await sbx.net.expose(8080);
console.log(tunnel.url); // "http://host:assigned-port"

const ports = await sbx.net.ports();
await sbx.net.close(8080);

Connect to an existing sandbox

import { connectSandbox } from "@byggflow/sandbox";

const sbx = await connectSandbox("sandbox-id", {
  endpoint: "https://sandbox.example.com",
  auth: "your-api-token",
});

Templates

import { templates } from "@byggflow/sandbox";

const mgr = templates({ endpoint: "https://sandbox.example.com", auth: "your-api-token" });
const list = await mgr.list();

End-to-end encryption

const sbx = await createSandbox({ encrypted: true });

The SDK and guest agent perform a key exchange (X25519). JSON-RPC payloads are encrypted (AES-256-GCM) before leaving the client, covering command arguments, environment values, file paths, and RPC results. Binary file transfer frames (used by fs.read, fs.write, fs.upload, fs.download) are not yet encrypted and are forwarded in cleartext by the daemon.

Sandbox capabilities

| Category | Operations | |---|---| | fs | read, write, list, stat, remove, rename, mkdir, upload, download | | process | exec, streamExec, spawn, pty | | env | get, set, delete, list | | net | fetch, url, expose, close, ports | | template | save |
