Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Clay Vue 🪔

Fluffy, friendly & 3D: reusable Vue components based on the Claymorphism UI design style.

⚠️ Work in progress — currently 1.0.0-dev.*. The stable public API only includes ClayButton and ClayCard, for now.

Installation

pnpm add @byloth/clay-vue

Usage

Framework-agnostic (custom elements)

The package root ships native custom elements — Vue's runtime is compiled in, so they're ready to use in plain HTML/JS or from any framework:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://unpkg.com/@byloth/clay-vue/dist/clay-vue.css" />
<script src="https://unpkg.com/@byloth/clay-vue"></script>

<clay-card>
    <clay-button>Click me!</clay-button>
</clay-card>

Or, from a bundler:

import "@byloth/clay-vue";
import "@byloth/clay-vue/style.css";

The elements render in light DOM, so the stylesheet and all the --clay-* design tokens work exactly as with the Vue components.

With Vue

In a Vue app, import the components directly from the /vue entry — here vue stays external: your app provides it (any Vue 3.5+ will do).

import { ClayButton, ClayCard } from "@byloth/clay-vue/vue";

import "@byloth/clay-vue/style.css";
<template>
    <ClayCard>
        <ClayButton>Click me!</ClayButton>
    </ClayCard>
</template>

When other frameworks get first-class adapters, they'll follow the same pattern: @byloth/clay-vue/react, /angular, /svelte, …

Theming

Every visual aspect is driven by --clay-* CSS custom properties, and all the library's styles live in sub-layers of a single clay cascade layer: any unlayered CSS of yours always wins — no !important needed.

:root
{
    --clay-color-primary: hotpink;
    --clay-button-roundness: 0.5em;
}

SCSS sources are shipped too, if you prefer the $clay-* variables:

@use "pkg:@byloth/clay-vue/scss" as clay;

Fonts

The Claymorphism look is designed around Baloo 2, but the library doesn't load any remote font by itself: add it to your app if you want the full look (the font stack gracefully falls back otherwise).

<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Baloo+2:[email protected]&display=swap" rel="stylesheet" />

Development

pnpm install    # install dependencies
pnpm dev # Storybook dev server on :6006
pnpm build # library + Storybook build
pnpm lint       # ESLint
pnpm typecheck  # vue-tsc
