Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Atlas — Data Mapper ORM for the Ream framework

Readme

@c9up/atlas

AdonisJS Lucid–style ORM for Node.js — Active Record models and a Data Mapper repository, entity decorators, a fluent QueryBuilder, and domain events.

Scope: Atlas is the agnostic core ORM/database layer and nothing more. Everything around it comes from Ream's own packages — validation @c9up/rune, testing @c9up/atlas/testing + @c9up/ream/testing, health @c9up/ream HealthCheck. Atlas depends on none of them, and on no third-party framework.

Active Record (AdonisJS Lucid parity)

Extend BaseModel for the Lucid-style Active Record API: static finders/creators plus instance.save() / instance.delete(). @Entity('table') is optional — the table name is inferred from the class name (User → users).

import { BaseModel, Column, PrimaryKey } from '@c9up/atlas'

class User extends BaseModel {
  @PrimaryKey() declare id: number
  @Column() declare email: string
  @Column() declare role: string
}

const user  = await User.find(1)
const admin = await User.findBy({ role: 'admin' }) // object clause
const fresh = await User.create({ email: '[email protected]', role: 'user' })

if (user) {
  user.email = '[email protected]'
  await user.save() // UPDATE only the dirty columns
  console.log(user.$isPersisted, user.$isDirty)
}

// bulk, keyed by a unique column, in one transaction
await User.updateOrCreateMany('email', rows)

// per-instance serialization visibility
user?.makeHidden('role').toJSON()

Static surface: find, findOrFail, findBy, findByOrFail, findMany, findManyBy, all, first, firstOrFail, query, create, createMany, firstOrCreate, firstOrNew, updateOrCreate, updateOrCreateMany, fetchOrCreateMany, fetchOrNewUpMany, truncate. Config: static table, static connection.

Data Mapper

Prefer separation of persistence from the model? Use BaseRepository directly — same surface, with the connection injected.

import { BaseRepository, Entity, Column, PrimaryKey, BaseEntity } from '@c9up/atlas'

@Entity('orders')
class Order extends BaseEntity {
  @PrimaryKey({ generated: 'uuid' }) declare id: string
  @Column() declare status: string
  @Column({ type: 'decimal' }) declare total: number
}

const repo = new BaseRepository(Order, db)
const active = await repo.query().where('status', 'active').exec()

Features

  • Two styles — Active Record (BaseModel) and Data Mapper (BaseRepository), same repository underneath
  • Zero-config conventions: table + primary key inferred, overridable via static table / @Entity / @PrimaryKey
  • Model state: $isPersisted, $isNew, $isLocal, $isDeleted, $dirty / isDirty(), $primaryKeyValue
  • Mass-assignment protection (static fillable / guarded) enforced on create / createMany / updateOrCreate
  • Serialization: static hidden/visible, per-instance makeHidden/makeVisible, @Column({ serializeAs, serialize }), @computed
  • @Entity, @Column, @PrimaryKey, @BelongsTo, @HasMany, @ManyToMany + relation preloading
  • Fluent QueryBuilder with parameterized SQL (injection-safe): CTE (.with()), UNION, WHERE EXISTS, GROUP BY, HAVING, DISTINCT
  • RawSql tagged template; domain events accumulated on entities, dispatched after save
  • Interactive transactions, soft deletes, multi-dialect (sqlite / postgres / mysql)
