Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

More controls and better steering for Pi agent messages

Pi Card

More controls. Better steering. Engage!

Smart steering for PI.

Type what you want in plain English. Pi Card understands whether to interrupt, redirect, follow up, or save it for later.

Install after release

Once the v0.1.0 GitHub release exists, install its tagged source:

pi install git:github.com/carbon-ni/[email protected]

npm is a separate publish step. Once @carbon-ni/pi-card is available on npm, install or update it with:

pi install npm:@carbon-ni/pi-card
pi update npm:@carbon-ni/pi-card

To move a Git installation to another release tag, reinstall it with the new tag:

pi install git:github.com/carbon-ni/[email protected]

Try it

From this checkout:

npm install
export TYPESAFE_API_KEY="your-api-key"
pi -e ./src/index.ts

While Pi is working, write what you mean:

| You say | Pi Card treats it as | | --- | --- | | “Actually, use the simpler approach.” | A steer: change direction without stopping. | | “When you finish, summarize what changed.” | A follow-up: wait until the run finishes. | | “Stop this task now. Don't continue.” | A stop: abort, then deliver your message. |

These are examples, not exact phrase rules. If your intent is unclear, Pi Card queues a follow-up rather than interrupting work. It also lets you add examples in your own words. If you tend to send a correction right after the first message, combine them before routing.

Take control when you need to

| Type | What happens while Pi is working | | --- | --- | | **fix the type error | Stop the current run, then send this message. | | &&summarize what changed | Wait until the current run finishes. | | ??is there a simpler way? | Stop and ask Pi to brainstorm before doing more. | | ~~ | Send the last queued && now as a steer, without stopping the run. |

Cards work without an API key. The three message cards run immediately while Pi is idle. ~~ only flips a queued &&; it cannot undo a stop. To force a steer while Pi is active, send && followed by ~~.

More

  • Configuration: API key, personal examples, privacy, and diagnostics.
  • Development: local checks, routing eval, and extension API.

Without TYPESAFE_API_KEY, plain text keeps Pi's native behavior. With the key, eligible messages and configured examples go to an external service for classification. Check the privacy details before enabling it.
