Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Tired of the dreaded Error: listen EADDRINUSE: address already in use :::3000?

killport is a zero-dependency CLI tool that instantly identifies and terminates the process hogging your port. Stop googling lsof and taskkill commands—just run one command and get back to coding.

Installation

Global Install (Recommended)

Install once, use anywhere in your terminal:

npm install -g @catnerd/killport-cli

Run Without Installing Try it out instantly via npx:

npx @catnerd/killport-cli 3000

Usage

killport <port-number>

Examples

Kill a process on port 3000:

killport 3000

When the port is already free:

killport 8080

How It Works

killport automatically detects your operating system and uses the native tools to find and terminate processes.
