Task context stack for single-person multi-project work
Readme
task-stack
A task context stack for single-person, multi-project workflows.
Not just for coding — manage any kind of daily tasks. When you switch between projects or contexts frequently, task-stack tracks what you're working on, where you came from, and where you need to go back to.
Install
npm install -g @cclee/task-stackUsage
task push "build login page" # Push a new task onto the stack
task pop # Pop current task, return to previous
task note "need API change" # Append a note to current task
task stack # View the full task chain
task log # View completed tasks
task projects # View / manage project list
task projects add <name> # Add a new project
task clear # Clear the stackClaude Code Integration
Can be registered as a Claude Code skill for natural language invocation:
"task push build login page"
task-stack vs TodoWrite
| | task-stack (skill) | TodoWrite (built-in) |
|---|---|---|
| Where | External bash script | Claude Code built-in tool |
| Persistence | Writes to file, survives across sessions | Current session only |
| Multiple subtasks | Last note only | Full list with status tracking |
| Usage | task push/pop/note | Called directly in conversation |
Conclusion: task-stack is ideal for tracking your current position on the task chain, but less suited for managing multiple subtasks. For subtask-heavy scenarios, TodoWrite is a better fit — though it's session-scoped and lost when you close the session.
They work best together: task-stack for the big picture across sessions, TodoWrite for step-by-step tracking within a single session.
Data Storage
Task data is stored in ~/.task-stack.json.
