Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Chronicle plugin for FoodNoms meal tracking data

Readme

@chronicle.app/foodnoms

Read the FoodNoms app's SQLite database with FoodNomsExtractor, then emit one EatAction or DrinkAction per logged food entry with FoodNomsTransformer. input defaults to ~/Library/Containers/com.algebraiclabs.foodnoms/Data/Documents/db.db; reading it needs Full Disk Access. The connection is read-only via built-in node:sqlite.

chronicle extract foodnoms --limit 0

Records are food entries, newest first, joined to their meal slot. since/until are inclusive bounds on the entry date, and limit: 0 means unlimited. FoodNoms stores dates as UTC text; the extractor adds a Z and turns the entry's blob ID into a dashed UUID.

Each action happens at the entry's timestamp and is keyed by the entry's ID without its type. FoodNoms has no food-or-drink flag, so an entry whose name contains a common drink word becomes a DrinkAction, and anything else an EatAction. Keeping the type out of the key lets that guess change without changing the action's identity.

The object is a Meal, named after the food and keyed by the action it was eaten in (action.sourceId), so the entry's ID is the action's alone. Its category is the meal slot: the built-in slots map to Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks, a customized slot uses its own name, and an unnamed custom slot has none. The description joins the slot, brand, amount and calories.

The agent is the iCloud account owner from @chronicle.app/apple. An explicit account object (or null) describes exported data without a host account lookup.

Tests use a synthetic FoodNoms database with an explicit account, so they never read the host's FoodNoms data or iCloud account.
