Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Structural navigation, search, and rewrite tooling for TypeScript/JavaScript repositories.

Readme

astkit

astkit is the umbrella package for structural and type-aware TS/JS tooling.

It bundles four command families behind one CLI:

  • nav: declarations, definition, references
  • search (sgrep): structural grep
  • patch (spatch): structural rewrite
  • code-rank: reference-based symbol ranking

Install

npm install --save-dev @claudiu-ceia/astkit typescript@^7

astkit supports projects on TypeScript 5.9, 6, and 7. TypeScript 7.0 does not expose a stable compiler API, so language-service operations use its official TypeScript 6 compatibility package internally while the target project can use the TypeScript 7 compiler.

Run

npx @claudiu-ceia/astkit --help
# or
astkit --help

Command surface

astkit nav declarations [--json] [--no-color] <file>
astkit nav definition <file>:<line>:<character>
astkit nav references <file>:<line>:<character>
astkit code-rank [--json] [--limit <n>] [--cwd <path>] [scope]

astkit search \
  [--json] \
  [--no-color] \
  [--no-isomorphisms] \
  [--cwd <path>] \
  [--concurrency <n>] \
  [--verbose <level>] \
  <pattern-input> [scope]

astkit patch \
  [--interactive] \
  [--json] \
  [--no-color] \
  [--dry-run] \
  [--check] \
  [--cwd <path>] \
  [--concurrency <n>] \
  [--verbose <level>] \
  <patch-input> [scope]

Location syntax for nav commands:

  • <file>:<line>:<character>
  • line and character are 1-indexed

Quick examples

# structural search
astkit search 'const :[name] = :[value];' src

# structural rewrite preview
astkit patch --dry-run rules/const-to-let.spatch src

# go to definition
astkit nav definition src/main.ts:42:17

# rank high-impact exports
astkit code-rank src --limit 20

Output modes

  • Default output is compact human-readable text (optimized for terminal and LLM workflows).
  • --json is available for machine consumers and automation.

Safety model (high level)

  • Scope and input paths are constrained to the nearest git repository root when available.
  • If no git root is found, paths are constrained to cwd.
  • Escape and symlink boundary checks are enforced for path-based operations.

Programmatic API

@claudiu-ceia/astkit is a meta package that re-exports public APIs from:

  • @claudiu-ceia/spatch
  • @claudiu-ceia/sgrep
  • @claudiu-ceia/nav

Example:

import { getReferences, patchProject, rankCode, searchProject } from "@claudiu-ceia/astkit";

Deep-dive docs
