Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Node API wrapper for NSZ

Readme

node-nsz

node-nsz is a Node-API (NAPI) wrapper around the NSZ application.

Installation

npm install node-nsz

Prebuilds

  • darwin-arm64
  • linux-arm64
  • linux-x64
  • win32-arm64
  • win32-x64

Usage

All functions return a Promise that resolves to { code, stdout, stderr, json }, where json is the array of NDJSON objects the nsz binary printed in --machine-readable mode.

import { compress } from 'node-nsz';

const result = await compress('game.nsp', {
  output: './out',
  overwrite: true,
  keys: './prod.keys',
});

console.log(result.json);

Streaming progress

The nsz binary reports progress as one JSON object per line on stdout. Pass a callback to onLine to receive each line as soon as it's emitted instead of waiting for the whole run to finish:

import { compress } from 'node-nsz';

await compress('game.nsp', {
  output: './out',
  overwrite: true,
  keys: './prod.keys',
  onLine: (line) => {
    const event = JSON.parse(line);

    if (event.type === 'progress') {
      console.log(`${event.file}: ${event.percent}%`);
    }
  },
});

onStdout/onStderr are also available if you need the raw, unsplit chunks as they arrive.

API

  • compress(files, options) / decompress(files, options)
  • verify(files, options) — pass quick: true for a faster check
  • extract(files, options) — pass extractRegex to filter extracted files
  • create(output, input, options)
  • info(files, options)
  • titlekeys(files, options)
  • undupe(files, options) — pass dryRun: true to preview without deleting
  • binaryPath() — resolves the path to the platform-specific nsz binary
  • spawnNsz(args, spawnOptions) / runNsz(args, options) — lower-level escape hatches for running the binary directly

options (CommonOptions) maps to the shared nsz flags: level, long, block, solid, bs, verify, quickVerify, keep, fixPadding, alwaysParseCnmt, threads, multi, output, overwrite, rmOldVersion, rmSource, depth, minimalOutput, and keys. It also accepts spawnOptions, allowFailure, onStdout, onStderr, and onLine. See index.d.ts for the full type definitions.
