Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

CloudBurn MCP server for AWS cost scans of IaC and live accounts

Readme

@cloudburn/mcp

CloudBurn's MCP server lets AI agents find AWS cost waste in Terraform, CloudFormation, and live AWS accounts. It runs locally over stdio and exposes read-only tools backed by @cloudburn/sdk.

Install

The CloudBurn plugin bundles this server with a skill that teaches agents when and how to use it. Prefer the plugin in Claude Code and Codex:

claude plugin marketplace add towardsthecloud/cloudburn-plugin
claude plugin install cloudburn@towardsthecloud

codex plugin marketplace add towardsthecloud/cloudburn-plugin
codex plugin add cloudburn@towardsthecloud

To add only the server, register it with your agent:

claude mcp add cloudburn -- npx -y @cloudburn/mcp
codex mcp add cloudburn -- npx -y @cloudburn/mcp

Other MCP clients use the same command in their configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "cloudburn": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@cloudburn/mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Requires Node.js 24 or later.

Tools

| Tool | Purpose | AWS access | | ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------- | | scan_iac | Scan a Terraform file, CloudFormation template, or directory | None | | discover | Evaluate live resources in one AWS region | Read-only API calls | | discovery_status | Show AWS Resource Explorer index status across regions | Read-only API calls | | list_rules | List built-in rules, optionally filtered by service, source, and severity | None |

scan_iac and discover accept configPath, enabledRules, disabledRules, and services, like the CLI's --config, --enabled-rules, --disabled-rules, and --service flags. discover also accepts region, timeoutSeconds, and cache (normal, refresh, or off) and reports progress to clients that request it. Paths must be absolute because agents start the server in different working directories, and configPath must point to a file named .cloudburn.yml or .cloudburn.yaml. Earlier versions accepted any filename; other names now return INVALID_ARGUMENT, so rename a custom config file to use it through MCP.

Results are the SDK's ScanResult JSON, the same shape as cloudburn --format json; see the finding reference. Errors return isError with a { "error": { "code", "message" } } body, and messages are redacted before they reach the agent.

AWS access

discover and discovery_status use the standard AWS credential chain of the process that starts the server, so set AWS_PROFILE and AWS_REGION in your agent's environment. Live discovery needs AWS Resource Explorer. Run npx -y cloudburn discover init once; the server never changes AWS resources. Discovery shares the CLI's per-user evidence cache at $XDG_CACHE_HOME/cloudburn/evidence (when absolute) or ~/.cache/cloudburn/evidence. See the CLI README for rule prerequisites and IAM permissions.
