Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v1.4.0

Headless full-page screenshots with sticky-header suppression, overflow-pane capture, and baseline diff.

Longshot

Full-page screenshots that come out right. Sticky headers are suppressed after the first tile instead of repeating down the image, and overflow panes (Gmail-style inner scrollers) are captured when the page itself does not scroll. Nothing is uploaded.

Two ways to run it, one capture engine behind both:

  • Browser extension for Chrome and Brave, driven by hand. Capture, crop, annotate, copy, download, or save as PDF. See Install.
  • Headless CLI (@craigcossairt/longshot) for scripts, CI, and coding agents. See CLI.

There is no website to run.

What it does

  • Full page, visible viewport, or drag to select an area
  • Sticky headers hidden after the first tile so they are not repeated
  • Overflow panes (Gmail-style inner scrollers) captured when the page itself does not scroll
  • Editor: crop, pen, shapes, text, stamps, undo/redo
  • Export PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF, or PDF
  • Files page for recent captures
  • Optional one-click toolbar capture
  • Optional skip-the-editor path that copies to the clipboard (or downloads)
  • Keyboard shortcut: Alt+Shift+L captures the full page
  • Optional CLI for unattended / agent captures (cli/)

Install (unpacked)

Sideload is the supported install. A Chrome Web Store listing is not published.

  1. Clone this repo.
  2. Open chrome://extensions or brave://extensions.
  3. Turn on Developer mode.
  4. Load unpacked and choose the extension/ folder.

Right-click the toolbar icon → Options for format, folder, one-click capture, skip-the-editor, inner frames, and overflow panes. If one-click is on, the icon starts a capture instead of opening the menu. Scroll overflow panes is on by default: when the page itself does not scroll, Longshot captures the main overflow: auto feed instead.

CLI (optional)

Package: @craigcossairt/longshot. The command is longshot.

npm install -g @craigcossairt/longshot
longshot --url https://example.com --full-page --out capture.png

From a clone:

npm install
npx longshot --url https://example.com --full-page --out capture.png

See cli/README.md for engines, exit codes, and --cdp.
