Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Checkout the demo here

Installation

With npm

npm i @cranespud/vue-typeahead

Usage

import VueTypeahead from '@cranespud/vue-typeahead'

// Then register it as a global component
Vue.Component('vue-typeahead', VueTypeahead);

// or as a local component

new Vue({
  el: 'body',
  data: {
  },
  components: {
    typeahead: VueTypeahead
  }
})

Then on the template

    <typeahead
        v-model="selectedProduct"
        @change="getMatchingProducts"
        :matches="products"
        :labelAttr="'name'"
        :extractLabel="extractProductNameWithCustomFunction">
    </typeahead>

Attributes

matches

A an array of items to be displayed as the match list

v-model

The selected option from the list

@change

Event triggered when user types in into the component. Is your responsibility to handle this event and retrieve the data.

labelAttr

If your matches consists of an array of objects then this is the name of the property to be used as a the label on the list

extractLabel

A function that accepts as a parameter a "match" object, used to perform custom transformations before displaying the label. This overrides labelAttr

Customizing the matches list

You can customize the displayed options by providing your own slot template; within the slot the current object is published as "match" property, for example

    <typeahead v-model="..." @change="..." :matches="..">

        <div slot="typeahead-match" slot-scope="props">
            <!-- fancy html start -->
            <span>{{props.match.employee}} - {{props.match.job}}</span>
            <!-- fancy html ends -->
        </div>

    </typeahead>

You can easily override the default styles as well, here is the entire stylesheet

.typeahead-wrapper
    position: relative;
    padding: 1px;
    width: 100%;
    box-sizing: border-box;

.typeahead-input
    width: 100%;
    margin: 0;
    box-sizing: border-box;

.typeahead-matches-list
    border: 1px solid #ccd0d2;
    position: absolute !important;
    width: 100%;
    background: white;
    border-radius: 4px;
    padding: 0;
    margin-top: 0;
    z-index: 100;
    position: relative;

.typeahead-match-list-item
    list-style: none;
    padding: 5px 10px;
    display: block;
    margin: 0;
    text-align: left;

    &.active
        cursor: pointer;
        background: #337ab7;
        border: 1px solid #2e6da4;
        color: #fff;
        font-weight: bold;
