Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@crudstack/storage-local

Local File System storage adapter for Crudstack.

This package provides a StorageAdapter implementation that saves files directly to your local disk. It is ideal for development, testing, or simple deployments where a dedicated cloud storage provider is not required.

📦 Installation

pnpm add @crudstack/storage-local

🚀 Usage

1. Initialize with CrudStack

Pass the LocalStorageAdapter to your CrudStack instance, providing a base directory where files will be stored.

import { CrudStack } from "@crudstack/core";
import { LocalStorageAdapter } from "@crudstack/local";
import path from "node:path";

const storageDir = path.resolve(process.cwd(), "uploads");

const crudstack = new CrudStack({
    storage: new LocalStorageAdapter(storageDir),
});

2. Upload a File

import fs from "node:fs/promises";

const storage = crudstack.getStorage();

const fileBuffer = await fs.readFile("./my-document.pdf");
const uploadedFile = await storage.upload(fileBuffer, {
    folder: "documents",
    fileName: "report.pdf",
    metadata: { uploadedBy: "admin" },
});

console.log(uploadedFile.id); // e.g., "documents/report.pdf"
console.log(uploadedFile.url); // e.g., "file:///path/to/uploads/documents/report.pdf"

3. Find and Delete Files

// Find all files in a specific folder
const files = await storage.find({ folder: "documents" });

// Find a specific file by its relative path ID
const file = await storage.findById("documents/report.pdf");

// Delete the file
await storage.delete("documents/report.pdf");

⚙️ How It Works

  • Centralized Index: Instead of creating scattered metadata files, the adapter maintains a single storage.json file in the base directory. This acts as a lightweight local database, making file lookups (findById) and directory listings (find) exponentially faster and keeping your folders clean.
  • ID Format: The id of a stored file is its relative path from the baseDirectory (e.g., folder/filename.ext).
  • Signed URLs: Since this is a local adapter, getSignedUrl returns a file:// URL pointing to the absolute path on your machine.

Note: Because metadata is centralized, if a file is manually deleted from the OS file explorer outside of this adapter, its metadata will remain in storage.json until explicitly removed via the adapter's delete method.
