Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@ctrixin/mms

v1.0.0

Published

One-command installer for MMS (multi-model-switch). Always installs the latest MMS release.

Readme

@ctrixin/mms

Publication pending: this package is prepared but is not yet available on npm. Use the main curl installer until it is published.

One command to install MMS on a machine that already has Node.js:

npx @ctrixin/mms

It installs the latest MMS release, then offers to open MMS Web. Accept and the browser opens while the server keeps running in the background.

Which command should I use?

This package is the shortcut for people who already have Node.js. On a bare machine use the primary installer instead, because it bootstraps Node.js by itself:

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/CtriXin/multi-model-switch/main/install.sh | bash

Both paths run the same installer and produce the same result.

Registry publication is pending. The commands below become available after publication; use the primary curl installer above in the meantime.

Arguments

Installer options are forwarded. Selection options also accept --ref=value and --channel=value; the last selection wins. Stable resolves the published release first, then pins both installer and source to that tag:

npx @ctrixin/mms --channel dev # the dev channel
npx @ctrixin/mms --ref v4.3.0 # pin a release or branch
npx @ctrixin/mms --no-launch-web # do not open MMS Web at the end
npx @ctrixin/mms --dry-run # print the plan, write nothing
npx @ctrixin/mms --help # the installer's own help

--channel and --ref also decide which version of the installer itself is downloaded, so the script and the sources it installs always match.

What this package does

It first resolves the stable GitHub Release (or your explicit ref), then downloads install.sh from the repository over HTTPS and runs it with bash, forwarding your arguments. It contains no install logic of its own, which is why a cached copy still installs the current MMS.

Because it downloads and executes a shell script, it is kept small and auditable: the source host is pinned to raw.githubusercontent.com, redirects are refused before following them, and the payload is checked before anything runs.

Temporary scripts are removed after both successful and failed runs. Network and release lookup failures stop with an error instead of silently installing a different version.

Its own version number carries no meaning about which MMS you get. It always installs the latest release unless you pass --ref or --channel.

Requirements

Node.js 18.17 or newer, and bash. macOS and Linux only. On Windows, run it from WSL.
