Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Glassmorphism surface system for SolidJS — .glass-panel / .glass-menu classes, a runtime-tunable menu-tint engine, and the MenuTintSection settings panel.

Readme

@cujuju/solidjs-glass

Glassmorphism surface system for SolidJS:

  • .glass-panel / .glass-menu — two global surface classes plus the design tokens that drive them.
  • menu-tint engine — pure functions that read/write/apply five user-tunable knobs to the smoked-glass menu tint.
  • MenuTintSection — a drop-in settings panel exposing the knobs as sliders + named presets with a live preview.

Install

pnpm add @cujuju/solidjs-glass

Surface classes

Import the stylesheet once, then apply the class:

import '@cujuju/solidjs-glass/glass.css';
<div class="glass-panel">translucent content surface</div>
<div class="glass-menu">smoked-glass menu surface</div>

Or from a CSS Module: composes: glass-menu from global;.

Importing anything from the package entry (@cujuju/solidjs-glass) also registers glass.css as a side effect.

Host tokens

Token defaults ship in @layer cujuju-defaults, so a host theme's unlayered definitions override them. The glass classes read only two host tokens — both have layered fallbacks, so the package renders standalone:

| Token | Fallback | |-------|----------| | --color-surface | #16213e | | --color-border | rgba(255,255,255,0.1) |

Menu-tint engine

import {
  bootstrapMenuTintFromStorage,
  applyMenuTintKnobs,
  type MenuTintKnobs,
} from '@cujuju/solidjs-glass';

// Before the SolidJS root renders, so the first paint has the tint:
bootstrapMenuTintFromStorage();

All storage functions accept an optional storageKey (default solidjs-glass:menuTintKnobs). Pass your own to namespace it or to preserve values already stored under a host-specific key.

MenuTintSection

import { MenuTintSection } from '@cujuju/solidjs-glass';

<MenuTintSection />
// or pin the storage key:
<MenuTintSection storageKey="myapp:menuTintKnobs" />

MenuTintSection is a settings panel for a themed host. Beyond the two glass host tokens above it expects the host to define a standard theme-token set: --color-text, --color-text-secondary, --color-text-muted, --color-text-on-overlay, --color-surface, --color-surface-raised, --color-surface-hover, --color-border, --color-primary, --color-primary-alpha-20, --font-size-xs, --font-size-sm, --font-size-base, --font-size-md, --radius-xs, --radius-md, --radius-btn, --radius-xl, --height-btn, --transition-speed-fast. Slider geometry tokens (--cujuju-mt-*) have built-in defaults.

The component side-effect-imports its own stylesheets (glass.css + menu-tint.css).
