Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@cutticat/duration-constants

v1.0.1

Published

Durations counted in nanoseconds through weeks, plus month and year lengths

Readme

@cutticat/duration-constants

Tired of defining the same duration constants again in every project? So are we.

The package is only those numbers. It has no dependencies. A bundler keeps the constants an import actually uses, so a project that pulls the package in barely notices the weight.

Counts a duration in nanoseconds, microseconds, milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days, and weeks.

A second, a minute, an hour, a day, and a week are fixed lengths. Months use Gregorian day counts: February is 28 days, leap February is 29, four months are 30, and the rest are 31. A common year is 365 days of 24 hours. A leap year is 366. These values are not calendar dates and do not follow a time zone.

The field for a fixed unit is 1. Larger units are fractions. A 31-day month does not divide into whole weeks. year.nanoseconds sits above Number.MAX_SAFE_INTEGER. That stored value is exact, and nearby integers are not all representable.

Install

pnpm add @cutticat/duration-constants

Usage

import { day, leapYear, months, second, shortestMonth } from "@cutticat/duration-constants"

second.milliseconds // 1_000
day.hours // 24
months.february.weeks // 4
months.leapFebruary.days // 29
shortestMonth.days // 28
leapYear.days // 366

API

  • nanosecond, microsecond, millisecond, second, minute, hour, day, week — one of that unit, counted in every field
  • months — january through december, plus leapFebruary
  • shortestMonth — February in a common year, 28 days
  • longestMonth — December, 31 days
  • year — a common year, 365 days of 24 hours
  • leapYear — a leap year, 366 days of 24 hours
  • timeValuesFromMilliseconds — split a millisecond count into the same fields
