Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Unofficial client for the National Bank of Moldova official exchange rates

Readme

@deniscuciuc/bnm

An unofficial client for the official exchange rates of the National Bank of Moldova.

Parses the XML the bank serves at official_exchange_rates and returns rates per single unit of currency — the number from the document has already been divided by the nominal.

pnpm add @deniscuciuc/bnm

Not affiliated with or endorsed by the Banca Națională a Moldovei. It reads their public, unauthenticated rates endpoint.

How to use it

import { createBnmClient } from '@deniscuciuc/bnm'

const bnm = createBnmClient()
const result = await bnm.rates('2026-09-09')

if (result.ok) {
  console.log(result.value.EUR) // 19.5432
} else if (result.error.kind === 'empty') {
  // A weekend or a holiday: the bank published no rates for this date.
  // Take the previous working day.
} else {
  // 'http' or 'transport' — the bank is unreachable, worth retrying.
}

The parser is available on its own, with no network:

import { parseBnmXml } from '@deniscuciuc/bnm'
const rates = parseBnmXml(xml)

What is worth knowing

| | | | --- | --- | | Date | ISO YYYY-MM-DD. The conversion to the bank's DD.MM.YYYY happens inside; an invalid format throws before any network call | | Nominal | Accounted for. The Romanian leu is published per 10 and the Japanese yen per 100 — the output is always per single unit | | Weekends | The bank returns a document with no rates. That is { ok: false, error: { kind: 'empty' } } rather than an empty map: "did not publish" and "could not read" call for different actions | | Currency set | Everything the bank published is returned. Narrowing to what your application needs is the caller's business | | Timeout | 15 seconds | | Authentication | None needed; the data is public | | API version | The bank does not publish one. The format was checked on BNM_SPEC_CHECKED |
