Live Football Scores MCP Server

Fetches live football (soccer) match scores, including current scoreline, teams, and match status from a free public API. This MCP server provides Claude Desktop and other Model Context Protocol clients access to current football matches, live scores, and match info by team.

Installation

You can run this server instantly using npx (no need to clone or install manually):

npx @dennisk2025/live-football-scores

Or, install locally (optional):

npm install @dennisk2025/live-football-scores

Adding to Claude Desktop

Add this to your Claude Desktop config file at:

• macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
• Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Usage

Once the server is running via Claude Desktop, you can call the following tools:

1. get_live_matches

• Description: Returns a list of current live football matches with their teams, score, and current match status.

• Parameters: None

• Example call:

2. get_matches_by_team

• Description: Fetches recent and upcoming football matches for a specified team, including match status and scores if available.

• Parameters:

  • team_name (string, required) — The name of the football team to look up (e.g., "Barcelona").

This MCP server is production-ready and robust. If the ScoreBat public API is down or unavailable, descriptive error responses will be returned. All dependencies install automatically when the server is launched with npx.
