Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Random Excuse Generator MCP Server

Generates a random humorous excuse for being late or missing work/class, using built-in creative logic. Perfect for use in Claude Desktop, custom chatbots, or any workflow needing a light-hearted excuse generator.

  • Exposes a single zero-parameter tool: get_random_excuse

Installation & Quick Start

Option 1: With npx

npx @dennisk2025/random-excuse-generator

Option 2: Install then run

npm install @dennisk2025/random-excuse-generator
npx random-excuse-generator

Adding to Claude Desktop

To use this MCP server with Claude Desktop, add the following to your Claude Desktop config file at:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Add inside the "mcpServers" object:

Usage & Tool Reference

Tool: get_random_excuse

  • Description: Returns a random humorous excuse from a built-in collection suitable for explaining lateness to work, school, or meetings.
  • Parameters: none (empty object)
  • Returns: JSON over MCP, e.g.: { "result": "I got stuck behind a parade of ducks crossing the road—couldn't possibly honk." }
